kids are an opportunistic bunch. I can really understand teachers not being allowed to carry firearms (and surely some parents would object to the idea anyway). If there's one or two locked in the staffroom in each department, that might work.

Better yet, if you have some official in the school who openly carries a firearm (even if its a dummy/has blanks), who has received formal training to be a huge dick towards all the kids, you'll raise a whole new generation of kids to actively hate anyone who has a gun, thereby discouraging anyone from actively promoting the famous US gun culture...
Just think how absurd it would be if guns were completely banned world-wide and everyone started carrying samouri swords instead or whatever. That said, it would be much much more awesome!
Seems to me that most US people carry guns cos they're scared that others do too. catch-22. *shrug*, not my country.

I'd say only 5% of the general population actually legally have a gun. And 90% of them have it at home in a locked box in the closet. This isnt Hollywood.
I read though that the killer gain access because the person monitoring the front door recognized him as the son of one of the teachers. They do have security locks and procedures for entering the school. Most schools now do have an on premise officer. No he doesnt walk around like BillyBadass. He's there to support the saftey of children.

That innocence was lost on 9-11, and anyone getting on a plane in the US already have to suffer the screening.

Possibilities:

1. Arm every single teacher (give every teacher a gun and a knife). Train the teacher. The teacher should know some martial arts (ex.: karate, kung fu, etc.)

2. Install big metal detectors. Everybody is going to have to pass through a big metal detector before entering a school. (It's kinda like going to the airport). It would be a very time-consuming process, but if it's going to protect the children, go ahead and do it.

3. Have security guards stand close to the doors of all classrooms. Install security cameras everywhere. Yes, it would be an invasion of one's privacy. But I think that safety is more important than privacy.

Some of you people are probably laughing at my proposals. But if you want some safety, sometimes, you have to go with some extreme measures.

No, gun control is not the answer. Upgrade the security of the schools but do not take away the guns.

We're already doing this, just ask any kids who dresses "in style" and constantly gets fucked with by the police... Hell im going on 31 and STILL get fucked with by the police,like im some type of fn hoodlum / criminal.

One day, wife was pulled over for an inspection sticker being out of date. Naturally that equated sitting me on the front push-bar of the squad car, for like what seemed an eternity. I was just extremely saddened by this inhumane act of a coward and was saying IF you could get rid of all the guns, then you could have mine too. Which may have been an overreaction on my part, I'll admit. I have two kids, 18 and 21, yes they're older but they were young once, and know I would be devastated if this happened to them.

I know guns won't go away, so I'll continue to go armed to protect those around me...

I know you will disagree, i have some extreme views with this type of stuff and dont expect to have many people to agree with me.

The guy killed 20 kids and then of course killed himself. In my opinion his parents, grandparents, great grandparents should all be put to death. No longer can you just procreate and not give a damn about what your offspring does. If they do something this screwed up then the US government should make an attempt to remove your DNA from the breeding pool.

Sorry we disagree but that is the way of the world. I am in my mid thirties and have 2 kids.

What good is murdering others? I have uncles that are evil, stupid, and destructive. That doesn't mean Grandma and Granpa deserve to die (already dead by natural causes - I guess Karma caught up with them?). I'm sure everyone at one point in their lives does something that may make them worthless, but that's part of life, part of either becoming or retrograding.

Taking that away from someone solves nothing, it just cuts it short, then others live in fear of you, and you become unworthy of life. It would never end.

It was not necessarily a slaughter of children, but sadly Virginia Tech similar events occurred and were caused by an immigrant.
