ctf.quakeone.com - what should it be?

The pause is for match mode only, and only occurs when a member leaves the server. It's purpose is to prevent a match from being unbalanced. The game is paused until the player returns and joins his team. The match can be resumed with everyone voting if the player does not return. (I don't remember the command right now).

i think we're wasting a lot of time trying to figure this shit out...
ctf is pretty much dead, ca is going strong right now because of cql tourney and the fact that it doesnt last 20 mins for a full game like ctf does.
if ctf was a quick 5 min game more people would play it.
i'm all for 3Wave over any other ctf mod but i dont feel like arguing my point because i've done it way too many times. i'm too old to argue anymore... bleh

CTF:
- Should make every weapon have a purpose. That means making the weaker weapons not suck ass. This probably means 2x shotguns, faster traveling nails, and a reason to use both nail weapons.
- Should be with runes, at a reasonable level. For Strength, this means 1.5x. For Resistance, that means whatever the "1.5x" level is. For Regen, this means 3 health pre second, and 3 armour if the player has any, upto a maximum of 150 for both. For Haste, this means 2x, nails traveling faster, maybe hitscan nails (not super nails), maybe nails with doubled firing rates, maybe increasd movement speed (but not 10%... 340 is probably safer), maybe even increased jump height (self.owner.gravity = 0.9)
- Should be maps that don't suck.
- Should be without grapple.
- Should be an experience that will be familiar players that know CTF from other games...

I was on ctf.quakeone.com last night. My ping time was between 330-450. I think it's a problem with my isp though. I've noticed a huge lag problem about the same time for a couple of weeks now. Two of my friends are the same isp and tell me the same thing over ventrilo. Anyhow...
I've read everyone's input on ctf suggestions and I can say without doubt that spectre hit it right on the nose with me. Even brought a tear to my eye by mentioning CTF1.

Seems like with all the changes you want, it won't be CTF anymore.

I'd rather have them on by default and let the players vote on any map they didn't like. If the majority of the people don't like it, then the next map starts. Make it a 60-40 vote.
I also remember using a server setting where you would be able to keep the weapons available all the time. No respawn. Nothing like one person dominating the game by not giving anyone a chance to get a weapon. DM3 I think it was. The only downfall with that was ammo was limited. At least with respawn, you could stock up. /shrug

Sniper,the ctf community is like 1/10th of the CA community / and 1/50th of the runequake community,no offense to anyone but i only seen about 6 die hard CTF'rs yesterday on crctf.clanhdz.com,those are rough figures,and a straight 3wave server if anything will only bring back some old 3waver's at the most,3wave isnt a bad mod,i actually enjoy it (I enjoy team based games period) but I would like to see a CTF community actually grow with new players,and the easiest way to see this happen would be adding a belly hook to the mix.Want to get into playing Quake again? I, for one, don't know. I know there are no servers presently running it.

My 2 cents for what ever its worth.
1.> i'll play any ctf with 2 flags and a hook.
2.> I prefer pickup games (dont have to wait 20 minutes to get a game started)
usually theres more players, and more maps are played, less bitching about votes etc.
But I think, what i could deal playing would be like old erols.
I can play with or without runes (prefer without)
I can play with or without custom models (prefer)
I can play with or without custom maps (prefer a mix of both)
ticrate 0.05, but i do like a fast hook throw and slower pull, but i'm with solecord on the belly hook is just gay'd up n00biefied ctf(sorry yellow

crctf could be set in pub mode, no belly hook, custom models, votable runes/quad/pent/ring etc. standard map rotation with votables
If we're gonna just mix all the features of runequake/CA/RA/CTF into one community hopeful mod then we might as well just stand in a circle and take turns shooting our RL's at each other with unlimited ammo on.
Each mod, has unique features based on the gameplay intented in the mod.
You cant play CA with a hook very well, and u can't have unlimited ammo in ctf. But you can have a standard gameplay that's worked 9 years -- polished for the players that remain yet still challenge new players. Keep the game true to its roots, and old players will return and newplayers will have a sound foundation to learn from.

I tried out ctf.quakeone.com , and since it has no belly hook,you can keep your gaming @ ctf.quakeone.com until both sides of the fence get some respect (both being supported).. if I am forced to use an axe hook,I'll just play at 3wave crctf.clanhdz.com and not bother with ctf.quakone
