  • Yayowave!

For those of you who play CTF, and played on yayowave.quakeone.com, I want you to know that I'm bringing it back. It was in Chicago when I had it last time, but I'm not sure that's what I want to do this time. The reason is, when I had yayowave up the first time, some players weren't that happy about it, due to ping issues. So what I want to know is, when I put this back up, where do you guys want me to put it back up at?

I've also created a map pak for the server because if you know me at all, you know I love lots of maps. Again, when yayowave was up, I had a variety of very nice ctf maps. I've gone through again, pulled out the ones that were popular, included them in a self-extractor and I'll link it up soon. For now, I can give you the info on it. The maps included are as follows:

    ctf1bsp2.bsp The Tormented Fortress
    ctf1bsp6.bsp Tickle-Me Shambler?
    ctf1bsp8.bsp The Forgotten Outpost
    ctfgold1.bsp The Mess Hall
    ctfgold2.bsp Badical Bunkers
    ctfgold4.bsp InstallaFlagus
    ctfgold5.bsp Elder CTF Shrines
    ctfgold6.bsp The Capture Zone
    ctfgold7.bsp Flags'N'Frags
    expctf2.bsp Expert Base
    xeno4.bsp Armageddon 3
    bastard.bsp Bastard Base
    twingods.bsp The Twin Gods Shrine

The file size is 17.3 MB

I recommend that if you play 3wave, you download this map pak, because these maps are not, I repeat, are not included on the maps download page of quakeone.com for 3wave CTF. On top of that, they are beautiful, even for those of you who like the ID1 maps, there's remixes of the ID1 maps that are made for 3wave CTF, so it's good for both tastes.

And Yayowave will still have the other maps that are on crctf.clanhdz.com on it available to play on.

*Can an administrator please move this to the CTF discussion - my bad.

Anyhow, I talked with some players last night on hdz. From the way things went, I'm thinking West. There's a large portion of good players in the West, and I'm pretty sure we all enjoyed teamplay. The west hasn't had a good pinging crctf server for a long time.

I need some input from some of you other ctf'ers. You know who you are if you weren't on last night.

      I'm 4 real.

I still think its a bit silly to name a quake server after cocaine/coke.

Exactly R00k, you hit the nail on the head. Thank you, thank you. Mindz I didn't mean anything related to coke, despite the fact that "YAYO" is slang for coke. (Although you do get the RUSH from yayo)

Well regaurdless , 3wave wont see any remote popularity due to its download requirements. Get 3wave setup with some type of auto-download Quake Client, then you'll be cooking with a sure fire winner!

(I'm a CTF fan,I always enjoyed Hating CTF , due to its "Pick up and Play" game style. 3Wave always seemed to require twice the effort to install, versus for example, RocketArena.

Threewave takes the exact same effort as Rocket arena. They both are exe's that install on quakeone.com/maps.

Threewave was 16/16 full Sunday night.

<--- not useful in a 3wave CTF game, I suck with the 3wave hook

Actually, the next version of Qrack will have a WEB based AUTODOWNLOAD feature, so it will install files required to connect at maximum speed.
Of course 3wave is 9+ years old so its not like there are continuous gigs of files to update all the time. Just go to the download section, there is an eZ-installer
                      http://www.quakeone.com/index.php?in...le&file_id=104

also u can get more maps at www.clan-hdz.com
                      or
                      ftp://ftp.clan-rum.org/quake/maps/

I have with held my vote for the moment, simply because I can ping sub 80 on either coast west or east. But central is kinda missleading as hdz is in texas, but chicago might ping better for canadians. I guess I'd lean towards west coast because I think there might be more west coast players vs east coast... ?

3wave isnt "Connect & Play" which is probably why a lot of mods for NetQuake dont see as much playtime, and I recall back in the day being extremely irritated at that "couldnt find star.mdl" message, and I would always go back to Hating due to this fact, until it died and I started playing ihoc mod.
I installed a couple hundred MB worth of shit when I gave 3wave a whirl, and I believe that was playing at hdz server. and half the time,I still didnt have all the maps, I believe this was true for Yayo as well, during its first run.

I enjoy classic CTF a bit more than 3wave, but im willing to play both, and I will have no problems getting it setup, just like with RA,but its not as easily accessible as say RuneQuake or CAx DM3,or any other mods that run basic ID1 maps, this is where the newb's will congregate and those who graduate out of it will seek further challenges... thats just my opinion, seems like there is a lot of steps being skipped in establishing a CTF playerbase. I could be wrong,I'll have to check out 3wave and see what is going on with this 16/16

This has been needed for a very long time, and I will be happy to finally see this feature being availible in Q1. and btw, I stopped using GLPro all together for quite some time now, I've been using Qrack specifically.
