I installed a couple hundred MB worth of shit when I gave 3wave a whirl, and I believe that was playing at hdz server. and half the time,I still didnt have all the maps, I believe this was true for Yayo as well, during its first run.

I enjoy classic CTF a bit more than 3wave, but im willing to play both, and I will have no problems getting it setup, just like with RA,but its not as easily accessible as say RuneQuake or CAx DM3,or any other mods that run basic ID1 maps, this is where the newb's will congregate and those who graduate out of it will seek further challenges... thats just my opinion, seems like there is a lot of steps being skipped in establishing a CTF playerbase. I could be wrong,I'll have to check out 3wave and see what is going on with this 16/16
I understand what you are saying, but that was back in the day . We could simply make an exe to install everything 3wave, needed to just add-on to your very own full version of Quake! The only thing that the download doesn't include on quakeone.com is the ctf files from hdz.com really, that's about it.

And we need not worry too much about "what's popular as far as cax or runequake", because 3wave is very popular, and I really foresee it getting even more play in the coming future, I mean hell, I've seen it more popular than runequake or ca lately

CTF.QUAKEONE.COM, is "dont need to download shit to play CTF!!"
Some people dont like the fact that the hook doesnt make a noise when deployed or that there are id maps in rotation. Well, honestly, 60%of the 3wave maps are shit. and 80% ofthe id-ctf converted maps are shit. but then that leaves us with a mix of maps to play besides ctf1, ctf5, ctf8. ctf2m8, e4m3... oh and without the 20 minute waiting for the NEXT game to start.

Thats another problem with 3wave,and im glad you pointed that out. I hope you two guys take note that I would reaaally enjoy playing CTF, probably more than CA,currently the only CTF fix I have is playing Q3.

Thats why pub ctf in my opinion always trumped 3wave atleast in my personal experience. If you could turn 3wave into pub ctf (Come and go as you please,no wait time) that would make my life much easier to play 3wave. Also , if Qrack can successfully implement the auto-download of a mod and all maps needed to play on any given mod, this would literally make EZ-Installers,or manual downloading of maps/mods an obsolete method, but still a valuable asset none the less.

I really thought the CTF map in Q3 where it had two seperate bases floating in space, with a mega health in the middle was a great map layout, due to the semetrics involved, I never understood why in some of the 3wave maps, some idiot mapper gave one base a RL and the other base a Red Armour, and in some of the maps there is no semetrics, the maps in 3wave with mirror image bases offering the same stuff for each base are the best, as for E4M3 and the other id1 maps that was converted for CTF,they had no semetry but the fact that I could just "connect + play" with nothing else to concern myself with is why I became accustom to the Id1 maps in CTF.

I'm getting excited at the possiblilties of 3wave becoming uber-easily-accessible to the average quaker.

3wave will never be super-easily accessible for newbs. it's not really meant to be. But I do think it's important that us CTFers play on ctf.quakeone.com part of the time, and not just crctf.clanhdz.com all the time. One of the reasons is to build up the player base. The other reason is to keep variety. On 3wave, since people choose every map, there are relatively few maps played. I like the automatic rotation on ctf.quakeone.com. I attribute the recent demise of CA to the lack of variety in just about every aspect of the game

Frenzy, so is the server going to be public or what? I think you are on to something if you could get a public server that ran the different ctf maps (not id maps), with the ability to auto download the maps that people don't have. ctf.quakeone.com is horrible, because of the rotation of id maps without the threewave maps mixed in.

I agree with spooker, variety, u need to have a player base thats new and relaxed vs a leet server that's rutheless. Sometimes u might just want a quick practice game. The difference between pub and match mode is,
              a.> pub has standard models/sounds.
              b.> 3wave uses custom maps/models/sounds
c.> pub has runes and quad on
d.> match mode has a timer (20 minutes) where as pub has a frag limit of 150/30 minutes

to say one is better than the other is nonsense.
A seasoned player can adapt (or adept) and prevail under any circumstance!
But to better the community/game, it takes more than 4 players arguing what map to play next.

I'm not baggin any one person nor the whole playing field. I'm just stating the difference and the possibilities. game on.

I agree r00k, and to be honest, instead of splitting the servers into two seperate categories, like Spooker mentioned, it would be much easier if the 3wave mod running on any server could double agent as a Pub CTF as well, and have specific times of the day or week that its running 3wave, this would generate the playerbase with newcomers to CTF and allow for more possibilities of the newcomers being introduced to 3wave... If you dont have much of a playerbase to begin with,it will always be either 3wave is being played or pubctf is being played, and anyone wanting to play the opposite of which server is currently at any given moment being played is just shit out of luck, that is why a single solitairy ctf server doubling as both types of ctf gameplay would be more ideal than two seperate ones. If they connect to ServerX expecting to play CTF , they will know at pre-set "time/day" they can either try something new, or wait until the Pub CTF reopens.

I understand the desire to play 3wave for those who enjoyed it more so than Pub CTF, everyone wants to enjoy what they deem "Fun" , but you cant have cake only, without alienating those who want ice cream, and if your to convince a newcomer in Q1CTF that 3wave > PubCTF , you'll first have to get them playing CTF PERIOD , before you can do so... and a single solitairy server would appease both veterans and newbs alike.

Damnit Chad, im typing more than normal and its your fault

I don't mind playing pub ctf as long as it involves the threewave maps. This is the problem with ctf.quakeone.com

I'm not really on to too much here, as soon as R00k is done coding the new qrack I'm sure there will be multiple servers adding new maps to the rosters.

Public? I don't know... that's kinda why I put this thread up, to get a voice from everybody, but you do bring up a good point. Running it like that could work.

Either way, the maps I've gone through have found great popularity at one point in time, and they work well. I didn't add all the "twctf" maps because they play them regularly in quakeworld. Or should we add them like that, because of the reason that they DO play them in quakeworld? And perhaps this would bring some of them to our game from time to time. I don't know. I do know that the maps they play in quakeworld, aren't very well adaptable to our hooks.

All the sudden this is taking more thinking than I wanted it to.

                        Thanks Destroyer!

Ok - well in the midst of all this, Destroyer offered to let us use his server for the new crctf chicago based gaming. Hats off to this man.

ctf.quakezone.net is now the crctf mod that's ran on crctf.clanhdz.com

there of course, will be a couple things different (such as auto rotation) etc.

there will be a map pak made eventually, but for qrack users soon (so i hear) it will not be an issue, since R00k is coding the auto-download into it. meanwhile, we are going to be running the extra maps (you'll notice the warp menu has an abundance of maps to choose from now), and you can download the map pak which includes ALL (LOC, Gold, ThunderWalker, Xeno, Expansion, and Expert CTF maps) of these maps now though by clicking here

Haven't had 1 complaint about the pings yet on the chi server, seems to be going great.

I hope we are able to spread th word about ctf.quakezone.net. I'm sure there are a few players that played a lot on ctf.clanhdz.com with us that do not check out quakeone.com and consequently will wonder where we are all playing now.
