i renamed them to pak2, pak3, pak4 put them in id1. connect to ctf.quakeone.com, quake crashes trying to download something while connecting......

that server is on elder.. it should not be downloading everything... sounds more like a glpro400 issue

I am not hip on the maps.... last time I played CTF for Q1 was on MPlayer. Whoever I am teamed up with, I would be happy to practice together with.

Does -mem 32 make a huge difference?

seabass try this. put the pak files in a folder named "ctf" in the root quake directory (not in id1). Make sure the only the pak files for ctf are in that folder. Make sure they are sequential starting with pak0.pak.

Create a short cut to your quake exe. Right click on that short cut and go to properties. In target, your command line should either be something like the following:

D:\games\quake\QUAKE1\glpro.exe -game ctf -dinput -noforcemaccel -width 1440 -iplog
-OR-
"D:\games\quake\QUAKE1\glpro.exe" -game ctf -dinput -noforcemaccel -width 1440 -iplog

Notice the use of parenthesis in the second example.

dude, monoz, you cannot give 3 hours notice for matches. A day or two advance notice is reasonable. Why don't you set up a comprehensive schedule with all the first round matches.
