the hardest part of having a goodgame is being able to lose with dignity, lick your wounds or stroke your ego, and READY UP for a rematch.


Quitters fail at quake. Your best GAMES only come from ENJOYING yourself. If you aren't enjoying yourself (winning AND losing) , then you diminish yours and others quake experience.

if you see that your winning by 100 or MORE, go for QUAD less often, use lesser weapons while you "dance around" your newb opponent. If your opponent is obviously distressed from being GRAPED into obvlivion, then take it out of over-drive and allow your fellow comrad to "preform slightly better".

Good ethics are what will keep CTF thriving like it has lately. I haven't had much desire for CTF lately,I wonder why.

When people say "good game", it doesnt always mean it was close down to the wire. But, instead, you had some good shots, i had some bad shots. And that we understand when where we made mistakes, and acknowledge the success of the winning team. It's a sportsmanship gesture, like a handshake at the end of a game. I think a game like 500 to 20 is not, a gg. In this case it was just bad team choice.

If Team A is stomping the shit out of Team B, and Team B stands no chance (which,typically happens) , then thats a bad game.

Good Games for everyone means they enjoyed themselves, win lose or graped.

I always say good game. These days I dont really mind getting stomped though. Its nice to just be able to play ctf again. Although I find it funny at times how I connect and the game is locked 2 on 2 or 1 on 1. Thats the only thing that bugs me about servers these days. The way things are I think it would be better if the teams were never locked. Being married these days with a new kid, I just dont have the time to wait for a match to end or try to wait 20 minutes at the computer until I can play only to have it cut short because the family calls. Usually when that happens I leave to another servo or play some sp. It seems it would be nice with the community being much smaller than used to be for the servers to be open for anyone that wants to play at anytime.

I do like the server when I get to play though. I just have no idea which maps its running besides the 3wave maps.

thats the exact thing that makes not want to play. ctf classic mode should be abolished along with runes. match mode all day.

also rune quake might be a better alternative, cause no one would like a perfectly good 2-2 to be ruined by you joining. just saying. not you personally, and also not trying to be a dick. im all about fair lineups. uneven teams is never fair, for example 3-2's should never exsist. most likely because the people on the "2" team are probably better and therefore should be seperated. also unlock is a option in match mode if the 4 people playing decide they would like you to join.

Well, as I said. To me its just a game. I would rather have everyone join who would like to rather than get pissed because its 3 on 2. The game is 14 years old now. I would think people would just be happy that their fellow Quakers would like to play along with them. There arent many of us left. A new game would be different, and I would expect teams to be even. But doing a check with DP for the Quakeworld servers out of a possible 4762 players, there were 6 people online (probably bots)When I was younger I could dedicate a whole evening to playing. But we grow up. Atleast some of us do.

But I dont have a server so it doesnt really matter how I see it.

I personally dont mind Classic mode CTF.
1.> Games go faster, ie if a team reaches >150 points before 20 minutes, end of game.
2.> Map rotation is automatic, no more arguing about what map to play next.
3.> More players are playing because they dont have to wait.
4.> Runes give newbs a chance if they cant find Quad, or a gun.
5.> I like joining the losing team mid game and bringing home the bacon!

then play classic..i refuse to. i'd rather grapple a empty server then play classic mode or with runes. your right there isnt many people left but but 2-2's are fine with me even the 3-3's are good. Sometimes we even get 4-4's. As far as runes and newbs, if you really need runes, join a newer game. Most of us that play now all learned to play without runes, newbs should too. I know not everyone sees it that way, and we should be lucky we get new players and so on. But stop catering..its pathetic.. Also the map rotation on classic is f**ked. Im not playing ctf on all these off shoot id maps... e4m3 is fine, but ctf on orge citadel or some crap makes no sense. The biatching about the maps is not as bad as what it used to be, i think that departments definitley improved. Also sick of people crying about the same maps, atleast we have a stable of 6 or 7 maps unlike ca that uses 1. Be happy with that. anyways enough of this crap, see you on zero.

Wow. Well your lucky. There are alot of totally empty servers out there. haha

Most of us that play now all learned to play without runes, newbs should too.

Back when I was a HPB I needed black magic or quad to get the LPBs. But now everyone still have better pings than me, but on top of that, I havent played regularly for about 11 years. So I get my ass kicked regardless of pings. But will play with or without runes.

And this is why the ctf community will never grow, but just get smaller.

All I mentioned was having unlocked servers. I just play runequake because its unlocked. Ive always enjoyed ctf much more than dm. whether im getting my ass kicked or not. I like having the 4 standard runes with ctf. But to be honest, runequake is annoying with the 100 or so runes thery use. Ill play wherever I can if its ctf, regardless of maps or runes.

Yes, threewave has that type of grapple. Threewave is fun. I even enjoyed playing ctf with the keyflags and the grapple-axe on id maps. You should get back into it. Ive never had as much fun playing a video game than when I played Quake ctf back in 97-99.
