Exactly why i dont hang on Quakedm.com and play dm. Though ive never had a confrontation with wolv, ive seen how he can be and see how it impacts the game during his and a few others presence.

This isn't a secret, but it is worth repeating. This site gain rapid popularity by focusing on the Quake in broad sense (depth), drawing attention to important works ignored in the "mainstream" creating a sense of wonder where anything might happen (possibility) while understanding the difference between a casual and diehard (audience), in a way that leaves both the casual and the diehard wanting tomorrow and possibly feeling neglected (the struggle). All struggles result in purpose (the cause).

There were a lot of Quake sites prior to this, including no small number of DM sites. Without the above formulation, one cannot cast a wide net. And none of those sites ever achieved mainstream success (reasons outlined above).

But this analysis misses something important: quakedm.com should be supported.

The reason is not so hard to understand: they play Quake. This site is about Quake and those who care about Quake.

Untold secret: some of the sites that were success prior to this one engaged in pointless drama about other sites. We didn't create this site to be the same as them; we created this site to be better than our predecessors. We did. We are. And we have the traffic to prove it.

Quakedm.com isn't another community, it is another part of the community we all share (which isn't decided by what website someone feels a connection to, but the game itself), with a different point of view. Success and failure changes on any given day, but call me oldschool but I thought the only question that matters is "Do you care about Quake?"

And that is a simple yes or no question, there are no shades of grey.

We set out to make this site more than about whether or not this is your favorite site, but whether or not someone enjoys this game in whatever shape or form that is. With the idea that maybe this wasn't your favorite site and possibly you might never "like any of us", but the idea that maybe what we had to offer was the concept that we weren't looking to judge you through what you liked about the game or your game preferences.
