Once Quaddicted is back and improved, you will probably not have to worry about maps anymore. And wads. And everything else I can host (I think about engines at least).

I do have a shitload of space now (20gb) and more than enough traffic for Quake stuff. So if anyone needs hosting for a Quake project just shout (or ask quakedev, probably better ).

I like the current environment better now than a couple of years ago.

A couple of years ago, at least in my community, we hadn't learned from the mistakes and cards dealt to us.

Also, a few years back there was some sort of social pressure that time invested in Quake was a lost cause and that "you" should go play a newer game and leave Quake. A "Quake is a lost cause" type of environment.

Now Quake is so old that I think that those that play it and enjoy the things that make the game unique and recognize it for what it is, a chess-like game in deathmatch and in single player something that offers a rich environment and nice tools to create wonderful experiences.

Plus: I would rather be in an environment where the fate of Quake is in the hands of fans, not dependent on corporations who even with the best intent aren't capable of the care and respect for the game that someone who truly loves it has.

Its not a makeover, Quake was originally rpg-esque. What we received was the scraps of that design due to time constraints.

LordHavoc and I, along with Sajt, SantaClaws, Urre, Error, Randy, FrikaC, and many others have discussed doing a sequel for Quake. Or just a 5th or 6th episode as a mini-sequel, something to contribute more to the world.

A lot has been discussed, but nothing was ever finalized. At its peak we had settled on the title The Crepusculum of Sanity, which involves a second ranger and goes deeper into the runes. We had several coders, and a modeller and texture artist - but no mappers who could make things on the level of quality that would match the code, art, and story. It was ultimately abandoned.

I liked the story though, it allowed for Quake-y style progression and atmosphere, but with a little more meaning to it.

That sounds very interesting. I wish I knew how to map. Well I do, but not very well. If I could only figure out how to get rid of leaks then I could consider trying it.
