By the way I'd like to commend you for doing this. I think this is very cool and I hope it works out. Thanks for putting your own hard-earned money into something which benefits the community.

Let's get some more sign-ups going. This sounds like fun. You should also create a bracket and seed all the people who join, and I suggest you make a deadline for joining.

Also, another idea is that people should play on equal pings. I think it says a lot when two people ping 50 per say and face eachother. I have no problem pinging up if I'm facing a guy who pings 70 or 80. I think in Quake a 20 pinger versus a 50-70 guy is just too big an advantage. I know when I ping 20 I can move and click-shoot-react much faster because the ping allows me to do so by being more responsive; by the time a 50-70 pinger sees me do 2-3-4 actions he's only been able to commit 1 or tops 2 himself. Anyway, just a thought, what do you guys think?

Hello and thank you for the responses. I am going to requote some of the original part of the first post to help answer some questions.

People are posting to sign them up. I cant sign you up unless you Register. See below:

REGISTRATION: If you are interested in playing please send me a Private Message on Quakeone with the below information:
You have to Register with the below steps to be included in the tournament. Just posting in this thread with any of the below information does not count. I need a PM.

       Quakeone Forum Member Name.
Quake Player name that you will be playing under in the tournament.
Personal E-Mail address so I can contact you if need be.
Your PayPal account name. (You can withhold this until after the tournament if you wish)
The Quake Contributor you would like to donate $5 to if you win. (Again you can withhold this until the end of the tournament if you wish)

"You should also create a bracket and seed all the people who join, and I suggest you make a deadline for joining. "

REGISTRATION END DATE: Registration ends on Wednesday November 2nd at 11:59PM CST. If you register after this you will not be signed up for the tournament and eligible for the Cash Prize.

o After the Registration end Date I will post the bracket of people playing each other in the 1st round. This bracket will be picked at random out of a hat from the pool of available players.
The 2nd round will be picked on the fly as soon as the 1st round is completed, again it will be randomly picked out of a hat. This will continue until we are left with the final 2 Players and they will play 1 complete round whoever wins that round will be declared the tournament champion.

"Also, another idea is that people should play on equal pings."

o There will not be any pinging up to match pings (unless I am playing). We also wont play on any server but rage.quakeone.com port 26005. I cant possibly control locations/bandwidth/internet routing/connection speeds. So you play as is wherever you are with whatever connection you have at the time.
I tried to keep my first post from becoming a book but my reason for not pinging up is that I just want everyone to play as is. Ping matching can be introduced at a later time but that would just bring too much more to this tournament than i can deal with and still keep it fast paced.

      1) People that ping from 30-60 its not to big of deal to ping match. People that ping 20 and have to play someone that pings 90, well thats also equally unfair to ask that 20 pinger to throw off his/her timing by pinging up 70ms.

      2) I want people to play at what they are use to playing at. For example, im not going to ask Phenom, who pings 15-20 to try and ping up to 95-100 and play Lust. He wouldnt stand a chance, Lust is deadly at that ping, Phenom wouldnt be use to it and these are short best of 5 rounds, 1 match. So not much time to get use to it either.

I am sure we could make the ping matching work with more details/rules/testing but for now I made the decision for everyone to play as they are, right or wrong.

Thank you guys for the feedback and good luck!

      P9

Planet, it's my fault I didn't read the entire post in which you already addressed the things I brought up. Thanks for clarifying.

I think you're correct in saying that pinging up from 20 to say 90 is unfair to the lower pinger, but I think asking the 20 pinger to at least come within 40 ping of a 90 pinger is reasonable. For example, with a 20 pinger versus a 50 pinger, it would be fair for the 20 pinger to go somewhere between 35-50, and likewise if the 20 pinger is facing a 90 pinger to go between 40-50. A matchup between a 20 pinger and a 90 pinger just isn't fair imo. This is coming from a guy who has played 20 ping most of his years.. and I was also MBP at 150 for about 3-4 years when I had a bad connection.. I played that on Erols CA.. so I've been on both sides of the plate and it just makes it a more equal playing field for everyone that is trying to compete to win the tourney.

I've known about Disco (____________?) being around, but the non-Disco Rockstar and non-admin status + someones offereing cash for a q1 tourney? it sent flags up.

Just cuz im no longer admin doesn't make me any less cautious, although I read Planetnine 's comment

                  Hell yeah

First off, Props to you all for making this happen. I really appreciate the time, effort, and money that you all put into this, for our enjoyment, none the less.

2 cents - I agree with Ramp that in further tourney's we can address the ping fairness, but I also see P9's side of not wanting to deal with it this first tournament. This tournament looks well organized and thought out. Thanks again. I'll be there.

I definately am interested. The wife's choice to signup is left to her,I shouldn't speak for her it could have less than favorable results

Put me down as a contender, along with as many FPS as I can afford that day
