  • Tom and Jerry Censorship

Some bitchass Mom seen a episode of Tom and Jerry where Tom was smoking a cigarette, complained, and now they are going to be editing a 50 year old classic cartoon's Tom and Jerry to remove any glamorization of Tom smoking,or Tom having a final cigarette before Spike was about to lay an ass wooping,I seen it on the news today and it downright pisses me off, especially since that bitch of a mom MORE THAN LIKELY,FUCKING WATCHED THE EXACT SAME CARTOONS GROWING UP. What a fucking bitch.

That's ridiculous, I dont even see why smoking is so "evil" to be in cartoons any way. I honestly cant see a mobster character without a cigar or a stereotypical "dad" without the cigarette. New cartoon makers can leave out all they want, but why the hell would we want to censor our classic cartoons!?

I actually have a tendency to add a cigar to most characters I design. It's usually censored out, but one I'm working on independantly will have it remain (flash, so I had to draw it with a mouse, not a pen )

Erasing the past isn't going to make us forget. Censorship is never good. Import that bitch to China!

Censorship is the assassination of an idea, see?

It's actually very simple. If you don't like what you hear on the radio, change the channel. If you don't like what's on tv, change the channel.

              It's that simple.

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

nearly all Cable / Satellite provider's boxes come with a "lockout" option for certain shows/channels, I guess she was too ignorant to operate that part. I guess she was too ignorant to even realize there is always a technical support for such things provided by these companies.

I never have understood the big deal about "smoking". I think removing that stuff from cartoons and movies is stupid, cartoon and movie characters with cigarettes add character.

I think the anti-smoking stuff is more or less a left-over from the 1960's when people smoked in buildings and other people had to breathe it day in and day out.

Yup I've seen that one, I actually remember them putting "unsavoury" ads into cartoons up into the 80s.

know what i think is dumb? she complains about a cigarette, and not about the grotesque violence involving human-like cat and mouse characters constantly striving to evicerate the other in the worst ways.

                          hilarious

You obviously need to learn a bit about Cartoon physics.

They have been editing things out of Tom and Jerry for probably about the last 20 years, mostly stuff that is considered by many to be racist or discriminatory, but is really about as mild as a movie like "White Chicks" which I don't believe took any negative pressure.

For example, Tom might get knocked out and then it shows him looking like a goofy Chinese. Or Jerry might get burned and then it shows him in blackface. They would take out those parts. They also changed Mammy's voice to a more modern sounding black woman, and in some episodes drew socks or slippers on her because the bottoms of her feet were more pale (and actually anatomically correct for a dark-skinned person). Tom & Jerry has a lot of fans, though, and whoever holds the rights now (is it Time Warner?) has taken a lot of heat from fans about these edits.

More than likely they will just drop the couple of episodes that glamorize smoking from the TV rotation. They have already dropped 4 that I know of, and those episodes feature Tom & Jerry getting drunk, Tom & Jerry going to a deserted island with black natives, and another couple with a big dose of Mammy, probably more than they wanted to re-do with the modern Mammy voice.

Tom & Jerry is an extremely violent cartoon. I love it, and I let my 3-year-old son watch it, but I don't see what all the bitching about smoking is about when they're constantly brutalizing each other. It's lame that bitch, bitch, bitches like this lady can get press coverage.

I guess the same shit happens around here. People pay attention to the people who go on and on frothing at the mouth with mindless blather, even when they have no clue what they are talking about.

I'm glad I can discern the difference. If I had more time or energy to dedicate to Quake maybe I would care to step in. But the little time I do have for Quake is usually spent actually playing it.
