I've been working on getting a CTF q1 demo recorded by Qrack to play in Darkplaces, but not matter I do (I even dumped the fkking maps into Pak0.pak) ,and continue to see failure on ability to load a map. Honestly, Darkplaces is a huge peice of worthlessness as a Q1 client imho. It fails at everyturn I attempt to "work" with the client, doing the most redundant typically EASIEST shit, like copying a map to Id1\maps\ folder, or dpmod\maps folder.

I have had a desire to make a CTF movie for a long minute now,but Darkplace's natural tendancy to be a PITA has insured that soon I shall set fire to the "Darkplaces" quake folder, since it has its own spot on my HD,and is a whopping 2 or so gig of failure.

    /end rant.

The clip was definitely good - however I felt that it lacked more 1st POV action - what the game is all about.

Very cool video though. Great job!

        Disco,

inspired by your great movie, I stumbled upon an older Quakeworld movie.
Due to the fact that I am new to this topic, you surely are aware of it.
If not, you might want to take a look at it: Regards,

yeah thats a good movie. That guy is swedish and if you go to his website he does that stuff for a living. He looks to be pretty good with motion graphics editing and animating programs. I am a complete newbie to motion graphics editing/animating. Alot of that video is good editing as well. I wish he used better music, i just cant stand heavy metal, kills it for me. At least the 1st 3-4 minutes.

One thing about Quakeworld is that it definetely makes for cooler movies/shots. You can tell they are playing QW with those physics. Players are heavier and gravity is stronger in NQ.

One of the cool things in this video though is when the main POV guy makes a GL/RL shot and then moves off to another room. The guy will break from the main POV and record in 3rd Person and show you what happens to his shot. I can do this using QRACK, to a certain extent. What keeps me from showing cool shit like that is that whoever the person is that recorded the DEMO, he is considered the Main POV. If he leaves a room or goes behind a wall, then it makes every other player disappear in the screen. So if you dont stay with the main POV that made the demo, you can hear the action but only see the map and the players/items disappear. I meant to ask Rook about this to see if there was a way to fix this? I dont think there is a way though, because that would mean your client that records the demo would have to know the locations of every player/item in the map at all times....

I wonder if there are any useful tools out there that might help you. For example, I've not tested this but would this sort of thing be useful...

Apparently it was one of the tools used to create the video I posted in the 2nd post of this thread.

thats cool looking, what is that? I am not sure if there are any tools out there? Honestly, this type of stuff is like 2nd thought when coding an engine but it would be really helpful to have better camera tools in the clients. If you think about it you can make game movies 1 of 2 ways.

                1) show footage/demos that were recorded for the sake of actually playing the game.

                2) show "Setup" footage/demos where you are actually setting up the shot you want for the movie, similar to how a real movie is made.

Option 1 gives you a plethora of content to choose from, everyone has demos out there.

Option 2 gives you more creative control and better quality shots but you have to have people willing to help you and sit there and film sh1t like a real movie.

So for me, i went with a mix of the 2, but mostly option 1. If there were more camera options then option 1 might be the only one i would need.

It would be awesome if you can get the server that is hosting the game, to record a "omniscient" type of demo. Since it is the server it handles all communication between every client and server. It uses this to make the demo and thus it records all player angles. Then you can play it back and choose which player, which pov, which loc in the map, etc.

                    ahhh mr burns... found it:

                    CamQuake - QuakeWorld Wiki

Looks like you were right it was a specific client made from ezquake to help track shots and make them look smooth. You can tell both videos posted in this thread are using it.

I am jealous, especially that first video posted by KYU.ONE. wow that was amazing.

Awesome vid disco.. The scenes with multiple perspectives must have taken a lot of time, and they were sweet. Perfect choice in music!

It's too late now for your recordings (unless you want to look into adding entities into a demo...), but I recall someone discussing a server demo recording idea, since the server can "see" everything all the time. I wish I could say if it was actually implemented.

Oh, and two thumbs up on the video.

Thank you everyone for all of the feedback and the kind words. I will start working on another movie soon. Since i am the only guy working on these movies it takes a long time to make them, unfortunately. Some of the other really good quake movies made, were made by multiple people and they were all doing a certain task like, 3D effects, editing, encoding, animations/titles, music and special effects. The more i keep at it though, the more i learn, and the quicker the turn around time.

I am trying to do a quick, short little piece for Christmas, not sure if i will be able to make it on time but i will try.
