    Ladies and Gentlemen, this is discussion about the slightly more then rumored possibly upcoming title form ID software Quake V (5).

    I know we've talked about this in other threads but I'd like this to be a Quake 5 discussion thread to rule them all.

    Lets see some serious discussion about what YOU would want to REALLY have in Quake v(5).

    Please do not troll this thread or attempt to send the thread off topic.

    I'll start

    I would basically and honestly like to see Quake 5 go right back to the "wacky" roots of Quake 1.

    Keep the rocket jumping, bunny hopping and insane pace of gameplay. Don't bring all the logic and crap from newer games that makes you think more. If I want to think I'll open up Microsoft spreadsheet and work on formulas. When I think Quake, I think Quake 1.

    I don't need Quake 5 to do a "Crysis 2 7000,0000 barrel physics test" That's a waste of CPU for a Quake game. Make Quake V(5) primal and simple as possible while making the graphics more of a "effect" then an interaction.

    I want to see bullet holes in enemies, limbs blown off (Think of OGRE 2.0 with GL in one hand and SNG in other hand but you blew off his GL hand and the ogre is still coming at you! )

    I would like to see some king of leveling system where you get stronger/more abilities as you travel through dimensions (Dimensions could give the player a special ability when they enter the realm).

    QUAKE! QUAKE! QUAKE! Lets see a story that drives the player closer to completing the story of finally stopping Quake! We defeated Shub and did it with as much style as 1996 can provide but its 2011 almost 2012, I think we can expect Quake 5 to at least have a better explained story (It still doesn't have to make much sense as a story is nothing more then explaining whats going on before and after the actions the player does in game)

    I would like to see some kind of story branching "If you choose to go into a certain realm before another realm you end up getting a certain ability that could only let you reach an area IN ANOTHER REALM" so basically you can revisit realms and search for stuff such as diaries of fallen soldiers explaining what happened there (allowing the player to piece together what really happened ) secret key cards leading to secret areas that contain "top-secret military devices" which can further enhance your personal abilities.

    That's about all I can think of right now but I'd like to hear YOUR thoughts and ideas!

      I want the same claustrophobic, dark, frightening atmosphere like in the first part. Also the tech/ancient mixture, i love it. Also all of the "normal" enemies + some new ones. What i want is that what Quake 2 should be but wasn't, a true Quake 1 sequel. Of course on a ID5 engine. Should also play like Q1 speaking of DM. And let Trent make some more music for it...

          I want interesting map design and secrets. I rather dislike most FPS's now days because they feel way too much like a rail shooter you can move around in. I want great single player campaigns as well as co-op, team deathmatch, and capture the flag. I do not want a scripted game like DNF or Prey etc, there's little replay value to these types of games.

          Keep it simple. I'd rather not have a too in depth storyline, that's not what shooters are for, that's for adventure games and RPG's. Some story is nice, but the whole Mass Effect type game play really detracts from a good shooter. So I don't want to see that myself.

          Good music, good engine, good graphics, but not at the expense of the game. Good level design, continuity and FUN above all else like the original iD ethic. I'll say it again, FUN FUN FUN, like Quake 1 =]

We are at least tossing around the possibilities of going back to the bizarre, mixed up Cthulhu-ish 'Quake 1' world and rebooting that direction. We think that would be a more interesting direction than doing more Strogg stuff after Quake 4."

                Maybe Carmack will understand that he should DEFINATELY factor in idea's and suggestions from the Q1 community. I don't know about him,but im still fresh on what "Quake1" actually is.....


                Not saying he doesn't, but honestly. I would send him hate mail if the Q1 successor wasn't what I expected....


                Getting the SINGLEPLAYER aspect right is only half the ordeal, and encompassing the Quake1 "feel" is required. Or,maybe we're all worthless and the "newb f$CKS" of the world will be appeased with some "whatever" version of Q1.

                    If I wanted to play the same old Quake with tarted-up effects I'd download DarkPlaces, some texture/model/etc packs, and use that. And if that's all that people want Quake 5 to be, then Quake 5 has no reason to exist.

                    Otherwise, like it or not, things must change. Things that will upset, annoy or even please people.

                        MH speaks like the wise shaman that he is.

                        If I got the opportunity to work on a Quake 5 title by id, I'd want to do it like this:

                        - Rage level graphics, but Lovecraftian monsters instead of humans (well, some possessed human gangs with their own agenda would be nice)

                        - real fur, dude

                        - no eyes

                        - typical id weapons (like every game by id has anyway)

                        - multiple elder gods influence the story, not just Shub (Pratchett style war of the gods)

                        - perhaps multiple player chars

                        - very fast movement and air control, trickjumping a bit like in Warsow (this stuff is totally the core of Quake)

                        - somewhat more fleshed out story

                        - slightly old school level design, please no postnuclear setting

                        - slipgates or portals
                        Scout's Journey
                        Rune of Earth Magic

                          So you'd like to see Quake 4.5?

                          I'm obviously not saying I want ID Software to take QuakeC 1.06 and make Quake 2 (LOL HAHAHA).

                              well carmack wants the Lovecraft again in quake series, If they do this, JESUS i'll play this game til death!

                              maybe we'll fight Cthulu or Yog'Sothoth

                              if dont the Spawn Father Tsathoggua

                              and tell more about how the humans got the Slipgate technology, i've remember that Generations Arena backstory and some fan made stories from classic, states that the humans learned about this after they studied the Hell portals from the Hell on earth Incident.
