  • "DOOM" has a ton of metal songs in it!

I've always known this, but in case you haven't seen the video yet, it compares the DOOM soundtrack with existing metal bands such as Metallica, Pantera, and Alice in Chains!

They basically recreated these songs for the game!

Close, Doom was released in 1993...

      No Remorse: 1983
      Rise: 1991
      Big Gun: 1993
      Behind the Crooked Cross: 1988
      After All (The Dead): 1992
      Angry Chair: 1992
      Mouth for War: 1992
      South of Heaven: 1988
      This Love: 1991
      Them Bones: 1992

So AC/DC's "Big Gun" was released the same year as the game was, but that's the newest song that was included in the game. They have tracks here dating back to the 80s.

I've stated before that Doom and Quake-period id were really strongly influenced by late '80s metal, zombie flicks and everything else that was "cool" back then. These games are products of their period more than anything.

Same as shooters of the '00s were strongly influenced by the so-called "war on terror".

True story! I suppose as a form of artistic medium, the artists simply drew inspiration from the culture around them.

There are even more songs borrowed. Actually nearly entire Pantera`s Vulgar Display of Power can be heard. Also, somewhere on Doom wiki is a pack of midis, they created for Doom, but never used in final product. There are even groups like Soundgarden, etc...

I recall reading somewhere Adrian and Romero are big metal nuts, so that might explain a lot.

In the last game I made for college, the entire soundtrack was Quake II tracks, Megadeth, and Alice in Chains

'id' games, as a developer, has made such a big impact on me in the way I design my own projects.
And actually introduced me to the sound of metal/rock/grunge to begin with

That's awesome! Speaking of metal, I love nu metal (but many folks hate nu metal). Nu metal emerged with bands like KoRn and Mudvayne and these bands were largely criticized during the 90's. But I think that nu metal is original and addictive.

                      If you're curious...

                      What is Doom Metal?

                      Answer:

Doom metal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Through my contact lenses, I have seen them all, I've seen wicked clowns and broken dreams / Crazy men in jumpsuits trying to be extreme and messing around with your computer screen" - Creative Rhyme (03/23/2012)

Oh there are so many sub-genres... some people trying to get HIM in their own genre as "Love Metal" and I wasn't sure if I should laugh or shake my head

                        Splitting hairs, thinning blood
Then you have people claiming certain bands to be certain sub-genres, so suddenly Megadeth is a Speed/Thrash/Power/ Metal Band

Jesus Christ Pose or Burden in my Hand

                          Probably the latter
