Quake vs COD Black Ops

1. What is the fastest pace of the game
Quake = Faster
COD = Millatary Slowness :/

2. Can Camping be okay
Quake = Hell No Camping in Fast Paced Games Ew.
COD = Yeah go ahead that game sucks IMO

3. What has a better community
Quake = Better than ppl at COD due to Dumass Kids that nerd rage and cuss out people and whineing like they give fuck
COD = The worse community ever made because of Trolling, Nerd Rages, Kids playing that Boring Pieice of Shit and stuff.

There are reasons why people buy CoD more than Quake. From the view of the average person, Quake is a mess of brown pixels, black shadows, and mushy sound. The game art/fonts/GUI/menu look shitty compared to modern games.

Quake's gameplay is extremely limited; all you can do is move, pick up items, and shoot. That's very bare bones.

Quake has no reward mechanics to speak of.

While I don't play CoD, I don't play much Quake either. I play Enemy Territory: Quake Wars quite often though, which I enjoy because it requires teamwork more than aiming, and it has quite varied objectives in each map, such as building a bridge / escorting an MCP / hacking or blowing up targets. I find that more challenging.

The person who made this thread is right and wrong at the same time. To a degree, I agree with the thread-starter's opinion. This thread-starter has some strong argumentative points. However, this thread-starter is biased (to a degree).

On the other hand, you have analyzed both games fairly. Although you barely said anything about CoD, you pointed out Quake's weaknesses. On a Quake forum, it's important for people to criticize Quake from time to time. The reason we criticize Quake is because we want Quake to improve. Besides, if people kept on praising Quake all the time, things would become very boring. [But of course, criticism is only good if it's constructive. People should choose their words carefully.]

1.To many cheaters
2.To many trolls

I'm pretty competitive but I don't like low blowing trolls out to ruin other people's fun for their own entertainment. In Quake 1 if there's a troll on Rage WTF do you do? Try to get the whole server except the troll to move to another server ("The other server"). the troll can easily ("EASILY") follow you and continue trolling.

In the end trolls + lag = no play.

Quake (for me) was awesome up until the point where it became like the show "Cheers" where everybody knows your name but there's more bullshit then friendship and fun times.

I wish Quake had the same feeling it gave me pre-2001 but ever since 2001 Quake (for me) has been rolling downhill faster and faster.

Quake as a game is fun/awesome... but as soon as you get critters coming out of the wood work to mess up "one of the last games of quake that may be played online" I instantly lose interest in the activity... It's the internet so my options are get mad and feed a troll or leave. I don't waste time or energy on an internet troll.

Really it's all the dumb people and trolls who ruin it for me, the lag just seals the deal. Since my only defense against a troll in Quake is to gun them down and now I'm always at a disadvantage with this ping.

In COD you can block people you don't want to interact with at least.

I'm sure anyone who's actually played COD & Quake will agree to the majority of the point here.

The Quake community/game is just to small now to compare to a game like COD.

To me COD is just 80%fun with 20% bullshit to wade though, in Quake it's 20% fun with 80% bullshit now.

You make some good points and maybe a few things were mistranslated in what I meant.

I love Quake. I actually listened to part of the Quake 1,2,3 soundtrack on YouTube earlier just for funzzies.

I'll occassionally(rarly) jump on Quake if there's absolute time and I'm absolutely bored and I see some old credible names on any competitive/co-op server, but not runes because runes suck.

I play COD:Black Ops fast and hard, I'm usually a run'n'gun type and enjoy scraping every last bit of fragcrumbs off the floor from my victims. Because the majority of COD players are average/below average skill compared to an OG like me, see?

Ontop of the much better netcode of COD and player prediction I get a much better experience then a fast paced game of Quake where my internet drops every time the telephone is picked up... I'm one of the unlucky few who lives in the country and doesn't get even average internet speeds, 6mbps down 768k up. (4.9mbps down 500k up in tests) but even in Black Ops I experience intermittent ping spikes, icons and disconnects.

In my Quake experiences (Since Ninety Six Wh00p!) I've ran into all types of characters and still know quite a few in person. That's the part of Quake I want to remember and the part I'm still involved in.

I've managed to troll my way to the top here on the QuakeOne.com forums some how and now that I'm here I've agreed to serve a purpose to this community which is to make sure it flows as it should, which for the most part it has. I check the QuakeOne.com forums about once a day or when I have time to see the latest mod and read posts I find interesting to me.

But yeah, love Quake, hate the fuck fuck games people play and my lag.

I thought long and hard about why I don't play online, although I do have a good internet connection.

It comes down to the poor social environment, the fact that the game is unrewarding for casual players, and the fact that many servers run a rotation of obscure maps that I don't know.

I enjoy Quake with friends, on a private listen server, well enough from time to time.

This morning, I had an idea about a "noobfriendly" mod that would provide the same hardcore fragging for experienced players, but also provide a few ways for casual players like myself to enjoy the game, and even accomodate newbies.

I also have an idea about how to reliably scare trolls off a server, by introducing a new weapon, the "Trollhammer". The trollhammer spawns at a random place in the map. Let everyone vote to tag a player as the troll, then have the Trollhammer do 9999 splash damage with a radius of 4096 units, only against that player. Problem solved. The longer the troll stays on the server, the more easy frags for everyone else.

I think such a mod is possible.

I also think that everybody should probably switch to the Quakeworld protocol, to reduce ping issues (this means servers would have to run on DP or FTE). If Person A has no ping related problems, it doesn't mean that Person B doesn't! This would require popular mods to be rewritten for QW though, so it might not quite be doable except for vanilla servers.

Edit: I call myself a casual player because I simply don't have the time to play Quake very often. I have a life.
