Then Disco was like "Hey, I can invent imaginary questions that I didn't ask and split it into blocks of text. Ramp won't notice cuz he'll be so busy being distracted reading his own wall of text. Win -- Win!"

        Hats off to Disco!

Hey I was curious.. when did we ever disagree on anything?

I just saw your quote for the first time in the interview.. on that we'll have to agree to disagree

Those were all separate, individual questions and sent to ramp via E-Mail. It wasn't 50 hours but it was quiet a bit of time unfortunately. Probably 15 hours maybe a little more and it was just an interview. Not like i am creating something great like coding an engine, a mod or making a map, etc...

          Email and discussions
          Questions
          email questions
email and pm multiple people different custom messages talking about ramp.
Read Ramps 1st replies, generate more questions.
          email questions
          more answers
follow up with people that have and havent pm/email you back.
start organizing his answers and my questions in flowing order in word.
          incorporate other people's comments
          spoons part
          final comments/questions to ramp
          final answers returned
          finalize correct order and layout
          2nd full read through
spell check and grammar (leave some people's comments like they sent them)

Now the fun part (sarcasm) figuring out how to get it on the forums without just posting a link to a PDF.
Insert formatting into word that will translate over to the forums. - No because all the forums HTML is turned off except news postings which get posted on the main page. Cant post a 15000 word news post on the main page. I didn't realize this until after i inserted formatting through the entire document and then tried making a post.

Solecord gave me a place to be able to do this and just have the post moved later. Yay, now paste the entire word document into 9-10 different posts keeping the character limit at 12000 characters per post. Nope. The Html formatting only copied from word and worked in the 1st post. Hitting reply in advanced mode and pasting the 2nd post, the formatting didnt carry over. So on posts 2-9 i had to paste the interview pieces over and use the forums formatting for every Q, every R, Bold, Italics, Franklin Gothic, Indent, Gold Red, etc.. So that part took forever.

I think we need to upgrade the vB version so it is more compatible and has a larger character limit.

You are too humble... and right now I'd raise the total hours you (AND RAMP) have invested in this.

Well when you have fun you don't count they say

Old stuff when you had ideas for features on the website and stuff and we'd argue about it back and forth and never agree. That kind of thing.

Great interview, you really have a good memory of all the things that shaped your Quake experience!

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Another nice read. Just how many good writer/players do we have in our midsts?

Also, this makes me realize that I didn't *actually* want to win- in comparison to Rampage's drive. Well, maybe everyone wants to win similarly, yet to actually go after it with enough tenacity to deserve it, is another thing.

                    Great interview

I follow the RSS feed for this site and noticed the interview. I think it's a great idea for site content and would definitely love to see more.

Rampage: Aside from the trip down memory lane, I really enjoyed the self-reflection and introspection into how one's approach to Quake can influence one's approach to life. The rocket-jumping shout-out also warmed my heart

Yeah I realized this as well.. I thought back to my times playing more competitively than these days and I don't think i had that fire or drive. I was just playing to play.

Tal, I also hope it brings some of the people out of the wood works and then they all agree to CTF 4v4 Warzone. I dont think we have seen some serious ctfing since early spring.

Beating Ramp @ CA has always been a driving goal. I never slacked off vs Ramp, and I probably have 1 win under my belt (caught him off gaurd warmed up him just showed up and cold) if even that

people stopped ctfing when I went to Vegas for a week. Without me, quake cannot survive. maybe I will start again.
                            Cbuf_AddText (va("say ZeroQuake GL version 1.10\n"));

Last nov/dec was the last big push for CTF games, I went out of town for a week in feb came back everyone was 'too busy' to play!!
Mono i think RedAlert followed by cheat2, and then pigfactory killed it.
Not enough '2-hour pub warmup games' before things get serious makes people become observers instead of players before they get tired of watching ass-cam...

We should have a ctf tourney or just call up some old players to play mixed teams for one weekend....

Or at least have a server that just runs pub mode so players not adept in CTF can play and learn in a fun and relaxed environment.

I remember back when Z-Air was trying to build a clan and Rampage joined and everything changed. "Stop trying to copy my style", Ramp would say after watching him hook and strafe bunny hop around e4m3...

                              Good times!

I think what would help revive it is by you creating that new CTF mod i talked to you about in PM about 3 months ago.
