  • New Euroquake server up and running!

I have managed to get a new server setup in Europe and the first one (to my knowledge) running the Runequake mod (one of the reasons I selected this is crmods lack of custom map support), I will be adding it to the necessary server lists but the address for the server is:

bigfoot.morphos-team.net:26000 any feedback and suggestions are welcome.

It currently has about 20 custom maps which you can find here http://bigfoot.morphos-team.net/misc/quakemaps/ or here http://quakeworld.us/maps/dmmaps/ if needed.

For players not used to this mod (mostly euro's) don't let things runes/alternate weapons put you off you can easily vote them off if you dont like them basic help is available by typing vote-help and commands in the console.

Oh and a big thanks to Rocketguy for his help with some technical issues and Peg for the map testing/suggestions

              Looks excellent!

              Great things about this server:

#1 First European server that doesn't have the connection accepted issue for some people! (I tested it) I don't know how the other server operators in Europe managed to get some setting wrong, but this one does NOT have the issue.

The only USA server that ever had that issue was Bomber at IronRocket, which was eliminated by moving the server to another host (since IronRocket didn't seem to be particularly pro-active in helping Phenom with that issue).

#2 I get 140 ping there. Not bad, so I suppose USA players can go there and have some fun with you guys.

#3 Jackhammer is running it plus knows RocketGuy. Never hurts to know RocketGuy

Jack, if you need additional assistance getting the server settings ideal, I know me and RocketGuy are both certainly willing to help.

Remember, just because it is Rune Quake doesn't mean it can't have the runes off via vote-runes and the alt weapons off via vote-altweapons.

You can make almost any settings the default settings, runes/no runes ... hook on/off, etc. etc. And don't forget that vote-team, vote-practice, vote-match and vote-arena (Rocket Arena) are all options.

Type "commands" in the console to see commands and references to the most important help topics.

                  Jackhammer ...

#1. Sir Jackhole has DNS aliased your server so bigfoot.quake1.net will work. I know you already have a DNS, but the one you have is a handful to remember

                  connect bigfoot.quake1.net

#2. You might consider taking this entire Rocket Arena map set ....

And adding it into your custom maps selection.

Because you are running Rune Quake, your server can do double duty as a rocket arena server offering rocket arena play far superior to the original.

For someone to play Rocket Arena, they'd change the map to the map they wish to RA on and then do vote-arena

I know me and several other players would love to RA you Europeans on a European server, heheheh

(I bet Yellow No. 5 would like to, heheh.)

Btw, I love playing on your server. Being a little bit of an HPB with 140 ping makes me have to think when I play. I wasn't the only American having some fun there, Lefty enjoyed playing over there as well.

#4. When you finally reach a point where you are ready to lock down your custom maps rotation and freeze it, I'll build a maps installer for your server. I might even do that before and then update it when you are done.

I have been discussing this with RocketGuy and agree it would be a good idea, I was going to ask what maps are needed but you have saved me the trouble I will get these added as soon as I can.

                    Thanks that would be appreicated.

Glad to hear you had fun last night on the server and it worked well for you guys hope to see more of you soon

actually we were thinking of creating another port that will run just RA (like shmack).

Btw ... something cool about Rune Quake is that if you do vote-arena for Rocket Arena mode, it will revert to your default mode when the last player leaves the server.

I think Rune Quake always reverts to default mode when the last player leaves the server, so if people do some wacky voting and then play and leave, it will be back to normal, as defined by your autoexec.cfg, when players show up later.

Other note, vote-match ... I thought it worked, but not in Rune Quake 1.1a which is the July 2005 release. Slot Zero added that in October so it isn't the current available release.

Additionally, if you check Rune Central, Slot Zero has indicated he will be adding an optional "return map" to Rune Quake so if a player votes a custom map or some obscure custom map that you could have it revert back to, say, DM6 -- after the last player leaves so later plays aren't left stuck on a map they don't have.

*cough* RQuake Coop because the main port 26000 can do triple duty! */cough*

After you guys add the Rocket Arena maps, I'll play some of you guys and you'll see how wonderful the triple duty is in Rune Quake.

Shmack:26000 doesn't do triple duty because, among other things, it is busy 24/7/365 for the most part. But a server that needs to build up a player base could certainly do triple duty on a port, at least at first.

That's just my thoughts on that. I know a lot of Europeans would like play some quality coop.

                            HELL YEAH!!!

I would love to se a european RQake server so that I don't have to have a 150 ping every time I want to play. I'd prefer it to have a seperate port, though.
                            16:03:04 <gb> when I put in a sng, I think I might need nails
16:03:30 <gb> the fact that only playtesting tells me that probably means that my mind is a sieve

Well I think I will get RA setup on the existing port just for now to see how things go with the server for a few weeks.

Coop I do like the sound of as its one of my fave modes in any game and its definitely something I would like to get setup over the next few weeks but that would have to be on a seperate port to be viable.

I didnt realise but Runequake 1.1a doesnt seem to have the vote-match option which is something often used, I noticed the schmack servers were running rune 1.1.41 and had that option included, going to try and contact Slotzero via the runequake forums about this.
