scar3crow poignantly observes that there is only one way this poll could possibly end up on this site.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

          John Romero > John Carmack

Your poll doesnt really make much sense. Bush somehow won by a majority, but he's obviously not the best president. This is a quake forum, but quake obviously isnt the best game ever.

QUAKE the BEST. Second to that, Doom possibly. Third, Q3, Fourth, Q4, Last Q2.

I guess it's all based on what you value. Without John Carmack, Doom and Quake series wouldn't have open source engines.

John Carmack and John Romero aren't comparable for me. John Carmack could be some management guy who never learned to code for all I care. The fact that he pushes to open source a wildly successful game engine when the guys who own 60% of the company don't get open source makes him my favorite. There are lots of great coders in the world. Carmack has the technical skills to produce great engines and the determination to make them open source.

Valve will never get a dime from me because of their steam authentication (how long will they support it?) and they will never open up their engines. Neither will any other game developer as long as they keep their content closed source. If people can't hack on it, why bother? It's just another choose your own adventure movie without the source.

Again, it depends on what you value. The quake series have the the best open source engines ever. For me it's a toss up between the quake series and I have too many fond memories of quake1 to pick anything else.

The only one with any sense around here of course.

Open source is so incredibly important in software as a whole and for Quake. It is this kind of thing that makes me more loyal to Quake and less enthused about games where they don't do this.

Without open source, I don't think anyone would still be playing Quake, much less be excited about the game.

Doom = Open Source in 1997 : D (Thank you Ty Halderman)

Well DUH, if you asked a conservative forum whether or not they liked Bush, the one liberal guy would obviously say no.

I like being the correct minority. Ask anywhere else, and your poll will be a little tilted.

                            Bitch.

On top of that, Gamespy was originally Quakespy! I rest my case.
