I read in some id Software interview somebody answering about it...
No "eye-dee" here. It's id like "kid" without k.
From Freud's id, ego & superego concept:
The Id contains our primitive drives and operates largely according to the pleasure principle, whereby its two main goals are the seeking of pleasure and the avoidance of pain.

I was curious so I looked it up in "Masters Of Doom." It says on page 77:
"When the guys christened their company, they shortened the Ideas from the Deep initialism and simply called themselves id, for "in demand." They also didn't mind that, as Tom pointed out, id had another meaning: "the part of the brain that behaves by the pleasure principle.""
Not from the horses mouth but rather close.

This is the oldest argument, and was answered in 1992.
It is id (NOT I.D.), it has been id, and it will continue to be id.
(id software through time)
ID-Commander Keen-Wolfenstein
iD-Doom/Doom2/Heretic/Hexen/etc.
id-Quake to date.
Nothing pisses me off more than people who say "I.D.", because that's not what it is, straight from the developers."It's called being awesome, maybe you should try it." -Bank

I say I-D. The people at the company can call it "id" if they like, I've never met anyone that has pronounced it that way.
If scar3crow can violate protocol and have a number in his name with a first letter that is never allowed to be capitalized, I can call it I.D. Software. :d :dQuakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.
So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

I always say it I.D. but I voted just id because that's what they call it. I'm so used to saying I.D. because I never thought id could be a word but oh well...e|------------------------0---------------

G|---------------2------2------0^2-------
D|---------------2-------2--2-------------

So it was done in 1992. Please provide the source.
I've always called it I.D. Even if it is the other, I will still have to refer to it as I.D.
When I was a kid and me and my brother rode dirtbikes, there was a cement road in The back of the subdivision that was not used for years and had no name. We would ride there every day because of the woods that surround the area. It was known to us and by the other kids in the subdivision as the "cement road".
25 years later, the place has grown and there are houses on both sides of the street, most of the wooded area has been developed. The street now has a name, even though I don't remember what it is, but to this day I can mention the "cement road" to my brother and old friends I see now and then and they know exactly what I'm talking about and could care less what the real name is.
I will find you... it's only a matter of time.
