How to pronounce ID?

I call it id because of the Freudian term, the lowercase presentation of it, and the lack of periods between the letters.

Baker - Your reasoning doesnt quite work, only because as it is my name, I can say "This is how I spell it and thus when referring to me, this is the correct way" and id can just as well say "This is how it is pronounced by us and being our name when referring to us, this is the correct way." Your analogy reverses those scenarios, its more of a "If I concede the spelling to scar3crow than as recompense I can pronounce id as I please". Do as you wish, it just seems rather inverted to me.


Grim - Point taken. However, Cement Road was named after you knew it as that, it wasnt developed at the time of your naming it. id was called id before we knew of Doom or Quake. You are correct in recalling it as Cement Road, but once again, this seems like an inverse scenario.

I always knew that it was id, but it just sounds dumb, I-D sounds more professional. Than just id. A very small word, I didn't even know wtf the developers were talking about when they said that at first...

Well then they say "id" they are speaking in short for "id software" which doesnt sound quite so dumb. Especially if you think about it as "primal urges software" and then look at the gameplay of the Quake and Dooms... and... Commander Keen? I guess thats a primal urge =)

It has always been id. This argument has been around SINCE id became a household name (1992, wolfenstein 3D), you can even trace it back to the Commander Keen games.

An argument about a how the name of a company is pronounced is silly in itself.

used to say "I.D" but when the Doom 3 promotional/making-of movies came out I learned it was pronounced 'id' so I say that now and when my friends talk about "AYE-DEE" I give them the " " face and go "whats AYE-DEE??? You mean id?"

All of my friends don't even know what the hell quake, or ID even is. They just look at me like I'm insane when I start talking about it.

They did the same for me back in 96 and 97... and people would give me the most fun looks when I would comment on "yeah I like to use explosives to push people into the lava in The Bad Place"
