actually, in most runequake servers such as Shmack, +hook and axe hook are the exact same hook with the same physics. you cant even use both hooks at the same time. so +hook is just an easy shortcut that doesnt require switching to the axe in the heat of battle.

as far as rune using goes, the default rune keys are kinda cumbersome. if you have a mouse3 key, which every mouse these days should have, i bind that to rune-use. that way, your gun trigger, rune trigger, and (if you're smart) hook trigger are all right there for you. rune-delete is bound to my X key, but i guess that doesnt really offer any advantages or dissadvantages. rune-tell is anyone's call. i dont use it much, but if you're gonna use X as rune-delete, maybe the N key on the opposite side would be good for tell. that way, you dont accidentally delete a rune you might want in the confusion.

Well... at the very least, don't put use and delete next to each other, like I do
      16:03:04 <gb> when I put in a sng, I think I might need nails
16:03:30 <gb> the fact that only playtesting tells me that probably means that my mind is a sieve

My config is a little different. That's what I mean by "better control" with the axe hook. My mouse1 is fire, mouse2 jump, F +hook, G rune-use, V rune-delete

I am able to control my movements much easier by simply firing the hook (using my mouse button) than having to move with WASD and firing hook with F. I could stick +hook on mouse3 but I like my config the way it is.

If you use mouse2 to jump, what does space do?

              I have a 2 button mouse + scroll wheel.

Like most mouse users , I use MOUSE1 to fire.
              MOUSE2 activates rune (rune-use)
MOUSE3 (pressing the scrollwheel) drops it (rune-delete)

MWHEELUP/DN (scrolling the wheel) tells me what rune i have (rune-tell). I tend to ALWAYS forget what rune I have, so I scroll my mouse VERY often... it has even become a nervous tic !

My +hook bind is kinda jerky... it is bound to my ' key
Don't ask why.... I got used to it so I'm keepin it that way !!!
