funny stuff. Funny. He he... it's like programmers that can share their code... with GPL yet... it's their choice as it's their hard work. An if they share it and used any previous programmers works to help them in their progress it has to be included in comments, and credit given to them for their support even if they have no idea they gave it....

But if someone wants to keep it closed source, far as i know it's aok. Same with programming far as i know anyways.

      ...

The GPL is authored by the Free Software Foundation, FSF. You would know that if you actually read the thing. They have a great FAQ which covers exactly those questions on their website. No need to consult Wikipedia.

      http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/gpl-faq.html

If someone modifies GPL code, he is entitled to not releasing his project and in that case doesn't have to release his modified code. Only when he releases it to the public (!) does he have to release the source (again under the GPL.)

The source code to the Quake maps is released under the GPL. However, the compiled bsp files have some other strings attached. Quake1 BSP files contain the map's textures, which are not necessarily GPL licensed.

I can't remember what id's licenses say about the distribution of something like textures in user-made levels. Someone should read up on that (not me.)

      Counter-example:

I convert one of the GPL Quake .maps to Quake2 format. Then I compile it into a BSP file. In Quake2, BSPs do not contain any textures, only links to them. So I may very well release my BSP file to the public (along with the code and a copy of the GPL.)

The GPL is pretty simple if your IQ is over 80 and you care to actually read it.

        That's a big if...
        16:03:04 <gb> when I put in a sng, I think I might need nails
16:03:30 <gb> the fact that only playtesting tells me that probably means that my mind is a sieve

Third, I have the source code that Hap released for Registered FvF, and would have sent it to you, but not now, and I never will, because I don't respond well to threats, hahah..... Good luck finding it elsewhere.

Fourth, you're a cockgobbling ***licker for trying to threaten me with e-mailing this to the gnu people, who, I'm sure, don't give a flying fiend's ass about a Quake mod, and I will certainly dogrape your ass to death the next time I see you on the server.
Gunter has done the right thing. I wouldn't have posted anything after that. Let peckernaut keep on babbling. It's a simple case of mind over matter.

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

Right, I forgot we were dealing with Quake players.
