Hey! Ok, I have the 3wave CRCTF+ server setup on yayowave.quakeone.com , it's also in the server listings on the frontpage of the quakeone website. Tonight, I want to see how it handles a full server, which I'm sure it will do fine. Please connect your quakes to yayowave.quakeone.com tonight about 8 pm central or 9 pm central, and lets 3wave! If you 3wave, PLEASE COME KILL. If you don't, download it and learn about how fun this is!

*nevermind* still trying to figure this out. I see what is going on now, it's not that one of the paks is missing maps but rather it appears the server is running maps not in the Threewave download.

First first link had the maps that came with the downloads in the ctf section of quakeone. The 2nd link however had new maps

Here are the 75 MB of maps in that expansionctf zip (34 MB compressed):



If all of those maps are added into the Threewave download, it will skyrocket the size of the download from 14 MB to nearly 50 MB.

I don't care if they get added or not (I'll do either), but that's asking for a ton of people to download new maps AND tripling the size of the download.

I'll do it if asked, but I'm not sure it's wise. The existing download has been downloaded a few hundred times.

The QuakeOne maps pack is under 10 MB, the Rocket Arena set is under 8 MB. Smaller = more likely to be downloaded. Both those sets are possessed by a very large # of players.

14 MB is a bit big, but probably barely in the threshold of a HPB download possibility and maybe about the largest size for a casual broadband user.

50 MB = deterrent size.

In my opinion, for such a map download to be that size, there would need to be an extraordinarily good reason for a user to have to download something of that size.

Well the new 3wav ctf server frenzy set up (yayowave.quakeone.com or crctf.quakeone.com) requires some of those maps... if people join the server and one of those maps is being played they can't play.

Testing the downloads : expansionctf[1].zip took 45seconds to download using the "Open" option when prompted for Open/Save.

99% of the quake community is now BroadBand enabled. If there is still a concern for DialUp users, then provide two downloads.
1] Basic 3wave Map Pack
2] Extended 3wave Map Pack (which includes the Basic!)

I plan on doing something similar to that.

I'll make the Extended Version the default and hide the "Basic one" somewhere. Then wait a week or 2 and see what happens.

Really it is more than maps (more of a mod download in a way), but at the same time it needs to be there to reinenforce the idea that www.quakeone.com/maps has maps for all required servers (Maybe even add Slide and AirQuake to that page.)

Ok first, which I neglected to post.

The yayowave.quakeone.com server, the last couple days, and up until next Friday, will be CAx mod during the day, and it will be 3wave CRCTF+ during the nights. The only reason I'm currently doing it like this is because, at nights the 3wavers love the server, and this also gives the daytime east coast CAx'ers and/or canadian CAx'ers a chance to play with a great ping.

Anyways, as far as the expansion download goes, Baker does have a valid point. Some people ( even 3wavers ) have been too lazy to download the file. The mod currently only allows me to add 9 maps to it. St00p, Baron, and I went through the entire pak of expansion maps, and these are the ones that I put up on the server:

* pigremix.bsp is NOT included in the expansion pak, but it is a GREAT remix of The Egyptian Pig Factory. Baker, if you would, please add me on AIM, my sn is thefrenzy1 , so I can talk to you when needed, and also send you that map so you can possibly create a .zip file and throw it up on the www.quakeone.com/ctfre downloads page, making it easier to just grab 9 maps quickly instead of the entire file.

As of next Friday, I will have another 16 port server so I can run both the 3wave CRCTF+ server, and the CAx server.
