I sort of feel like this thread is a good example of someone owning themself in a forum.

It would have been better to say "Yeah, it was me and it seemed like something harmless to do at the time. Sorry."

Instead, it reads like the Unibomber Manifesto asserting that it was ok because <<insert here>> [I don't CA, CA is dumb, there is more to life than Quake, no one minded that I was doing it, there is more to life than Quake, I was trying to prove a point etc].

I think this whole thing has been blow out of proportion.

Okay, first off mithril is in his rights to post his complaints. Did so in a valid method, via demo. "POP", acknoledged, hey guys "i was bored, just yankin your shank". Honestly, he's a great DM player, albiet, less respectful for mods he deems less skilled. Doesnt mean he was CC'ing in on a tourney, botting. Most likely he was playing a hacked sbot (the server detects the real one), just to be funny. Actually "he can really beat most of the players including frenzy" (end quote by me.) Now I'm not condoning his behavior. he is just bored. I remember going to trinicom and talking -drunk- smack myself; and this is what he is doing. And bringing it to this forum only fuels his entertainment. He's having fun AT you not WITH you. Simply because he can beat the majority at "our" on game. Now, why he has to use a bot to do it is crazy and blatently trying to ruin the game. cause logically he can play better then most of us (or at elast CRMOD), so I guess all this ass-in the air is really all he wants to see

Besides, if youre a good enough player, playing people below you should be 'Fucking Around With Em'. If it isnt like that, then youre not a good enough player, youre just better, and your time spent being a dick will lend time to assisting those whom you antagonize in surpassing your skill.

Then again the "at least CRMOD" comment makes me doubt his actual skill, because concentric skill is useless in a serious challenge where you might be taken out of your comfort zone.

The server isn't cheatfree because it's a pub server intended to be newb friendly and an easy place to find a fun pickup game without needing to have knowledge of pq cheatfree or anything else. However, R00k has done a great job eliminating lot of hacks. Actually the server did log pop's cheat, as stooge. The nice thing about the way it's setup now is that people dont know if it detects their cheat or not, so they dont know until we publicly announce who is shown to be cheating. We've already embarrassed a few people this way

I deleted several of POP's posts out of this thread that contained personal attacks against me (and my kid), as POP did a good enough job making a drunken ass out of himself as it was. He is now unbanned, as he has admitted it was stupid and said he will not be botting any more.

Y'all are really fucking cracking me up. Since there seems to be an ongoing continuation of posts, I'll address each person as necessary.

Solecord, I'm not banned, get a clue! I was on there again today laughing it up.

Rook, Baker and all the other mod makers... just as anyone else has a right to their opinion, so do I. I try and play or at least try every mod that's been out there and in doing such I have every right to formulate an opinion on each mod. There's mods that I feel are newbish which give less skilled players an advantage via rune effects, no self damage, etc. I'm not stating a fact or truth, just my opinion.

Scarecrow, your last post is hilarious. People like you are the type that remind me of the majority of peonic kids that still play this game and take it so seriously. I have no desire nor patience to try and make other players "better". I don't look at quake in terms of who is better than who. I could care less who's better then me or vice versa. I just play...period.

Net-tyme, I've spent the better part of my days in quake with accusations and false presumptions. I couldn't give a rats ass if someone thinks or believes me to be supposedly cheating. When people accuse me or question me, I look at it as a compliment and offer a SS or whatever they want. There are many people who have seen me play well as well as play like shit time and time again. We all have our good days where we're on and other days where we couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. I've fiddled with just about every known cheat out there because they were so easy to obtain via the web or from other players. As I stated in my last post, more players than you think cheat and cheat on the servers we currently play on.

Jesse, what is so difficult about using cheatfree??? It's just a simple download. I question the actual ability to detect cheats muchless a bot cheat. Rage doesn't stop people from using the hacked maps cheat, the pak2 poles cheat or wireframe cheat. If need be I'd be happy to prove it to you. It's been quite apparent that a number of people are using some of those cheats as I've seen it firsthand.

Finally... to any administrator, since so many people are so tired of this thread, why not just delete it or lock it down if possible where people can't post to it anymore. Naturally I enjoy reading the flaming from some of them and it only adds more fuel to the fire as Rook so flawlessly pointed out. You quakers put way too much high schoolism into having a "quake rep". Can any of you just pull your head out of ass and just move on???

As to the server being cheatfree, we intentionally set it up as not cheatfree. Proquake has seen no developement in 4+ years and is getting out dated, many players prefer other clients such as qrack and darkplaces. Also, a lot randoms with old standard quake sitting on their hard drive often decide to go looking for a game, and don't know what to do when they can't connect to cheatfree.

Rage is intended to be a bit newbie styled. It's supposed to be a pub server that is easy for newbs and skilled players to hop on for a quick game. Mods like crmod and ctf have a very difficult skill curve. All of the skilled players are so much better than the newbs or moderate players that there is no point for anyone but the best to play. With a busy pub server like rage around, there are more people playing and it's easier to start up games of tdm or ctf.

If you want to f around with a bot, do it offline against other bots, it's the same thing.

Doing it against other humans just shows your a dick and you want to make others' gameplay experience hell, this behaviour should not be tolerated anywhere. The admins have the rights to keep the servers clean, you cant blame them for that.
