Running custom maps downloadable HERE has now been put into beta testing faze.

On top of opening this new server, we will need you to help test the new custom maps! the maps have been hand picked for top CA action and offer a fresh spin on the line up. The servers's address is dredd.quakeone.com and offers you to connect with any of the popular Quake clients! Expect new invigorating game play on Dredd.quakeone.com.

On to other things. This isn't your average Clan Arena server. We enjoy playing clan Arena at Dredd and expect you to enjoy yourself as well, the -shittalkers/racist comments/greifers- will not be tolerated. This should go without saying that shittaking and shittalking your best friend on Quake are 2 totally different things. We push for excellence in players not excellence in the player's skill level. We create a friendly environment where everyone can come and enjoy the game!

Everyone is welcome to the Dredd server as long as you follow the obvious rules! Don't expect to last long if you can't control your attitude!

It isn't running an update-to-version of CA at the moment or Qrack server. Phenom has a ticket in for the server to be changed to Qrack server.

Automatic map rotation hasn't been coded yet either and we really need the solid sky "fix".

Maps

The best maps are very solid CA maps for games of varying sizes, most of the maps have not ever been seen before by most players.

The best maps, based on play testing and player feedback so far:

Automatic map rotation is important because no one wants to think or initiates votes for the next map to load.

There are 51 total maps on the server, many of the maps play very well in CA at least under some circumstances (player dependent).

Good server. Good maps. Fun to sneak up on people. I still don't like CA, but that spices it up a great deal.

We did about 2 weeks of map testing to identify maps that play well in CA.

One source of maps that proved to be exceptionally valuable was the Quake Multiplayer Archive, a site resurrected last year around Quake Expo.

A lot of maps I had NEVER seen before anywhere were discovered there, and I have to say I was glad that those that had run that site in the past (around 2001-2003) took the time to restore it.

The ban file @ dredd is empty; everyone has a clean slate there :d

After numerous games on the server, the consensus is pretty much that some of the maps are very good and a couple of maps that we had hoped might be suitable for smaller games like EFDM12 don't work for smaller games (probably need 8 to 16 to make that map work well).

The maps reinc5, aggressr and imp1dm6 are pretty much universally liked.

Current Status Of The Server

The server still is in testing and right now is between updates! The server should be updated tomorrow to a better version.

The server WAS running an older version of CAx with the warp menu fully integrated. It crashed every few matches and was replaced with a stable version of CAx with an outdated warp menu, so right now the server isn't really setup for public play at the moment.

Tomorrow it should be updated and ready to go and the word is that automatic map rotation will be done or at least ready for testing.

Thanks to everyone who checked out the server and helped give the maps some very solid play testing and for putting up with the intermittent crashes.

Slot Zero implemented RQ so it sees how many players are in game before switching to a new map, using the player count to determine which set of maps are best (small map, large map).

Mindz is a cool dude, i've known him on Quake for quite a while.. I've seen him pull some crazy stuff out of nowhere. Respect the 30lb Mary Jane hat waring Jamiroquai or he will 'still walk' all over your ass.
