Quake 10 Year video!

I for one,never seen this video,and just today heard about it when Baker mentioned it in the Remake of Quake post that turned into a slight disagreement fest.

The content of the video is good. It shows Kedrin discussing his Q10Y project basically. Sounds like it will be alot cooler then the screenshots he has on his website.

Throughout the whole film it felt like has in the middle of a conference, meeting or rock concert something like that. He did say in the beginning if anyone else caught it.

I really don't hope this mean "Use DarkPlaces and lets all play Kedrin's funny new little mod!". If I wanted to use DarkPlaces to make things look good I would. If I wanted to make a Quake 10 Year mod I would have done it already. Put them together and do I have Kedrin's idea of what Q10Y really is?


That brings me back to what I said earlier. I hope the Q10Y project will be a lot cooler then the screenshots he has on his website. He makes it sound like it will be roughly as graphically advanced as Doom3 or Quake4. I guess we wait untill he opens up the project and starts allowing people to participate in coding, testing, playing.

Quake10Year is build with intense use of Darkplaces' features. Just take a look at the old screenshots: http://quake10year.com/
It uses features no other engine supports and thus needs Darkplaces. I cannot see anything bad with that.

I'm not saying theres anything bad about it. I just don't want to see Awesome graphics and a TF mod with a twist I expect to se Quake 1's sequel.

And BTW, the DarkPlaces tech it uses is not only advanced, but rather unique. Doom3/Quake4 doesnt have that level of rendering (iirc UnrealEngine3 does however, so it wont be a lonestar for long).

Also, iirc, those shots use the low or medium quality textures, not the high or very high quality versions he has - and LordHavoc has tested them himself, you can walk up to a wall and see more detail, then alter your fov to zoom in, and see even more detail. Its not Doom3 level of detail, DarkPlaces is capable of more, and so is Kedhrin.

And yeah, it was done fairly impromptu in the middle of QuakeCon'06 and sleep doesnt really happen there.

Oh, I didnt know it was done at Quakecon, I also didnt know DP was capable of rendering levels better then Doom3/Quake4.

If I Remember Correctly
a little acronym I picked up from Nightbringer back in the day (iirc, heh, he did the first Quake sourceport, though it wasnt publically released, he fixed some hom errors and such, and added an ms-dos shell into the console - it was weird to play with), creator of the bizarre Dark Majick weapons mod (fun stuff, I bet its crazy in dm) and the rts mod for Q2, QWar2 that got released in a mod pack by id and yielded a tidy royalty check.

That was a lot of info, at least I didnt give away his hometown and full name..
