So the point of this was simply to complain about the website then? The three people who started this site...steve baker and myself, did so to promote netquake multiplayer. I've always thought it was weird people like you bank showed up just to hang out on the site, but not play online. And you and a few others seem to think the forums ARE the community. I mean that fine, I'm just saying thats not the real purpose of the site.

2 nights ago me and a few others headed to rage from irc for a game, but found the server full with 16 players. So we went to rage 26001.... and it had 8 players...so we went to 26002 for our 3v3. The forums are just for some occasional banter or help quesions etc.

As for people being uncivil on the forums, welcome to the internet. Also you've started as many conflicts as anyone else.

I'll listen to it to find out what it is about. I personally don't mind controversy, as long as "stirring the pot" has an insightful point of view ... even if I don't agree with it.

Heh, quit being a wuss. :d Although I haven't listened to yet, you didn't know Jean-Luc or Chaz and Solecord, Yellow and myself did :d Hydro, Mindz, QuadRaptor, Jackhole and many others know this to be true.

Believe me you when I say any controversy or shaking the status quo you have done was small time stuff compared to the TLTQ.com. Besides, I like to argue if you haven't noticed and usually find entertainment value in it.

Anyways, I'm gonna listen to it and regardless of what the content is, I look forward to hearing it.

Alright 5 minutes into it ... and I love it. Freedom of speech in action; I like no holds barred critiques and people saying what they think and feel.

I agree with a lot of the things Bank said. It is true that a lot of the forum content is less interesting than last year at this time and some of the threads have been of lower content.

Some of that is avoidable due to 2 reasons:

1. The site was brand new last year at this time and really had an earthshattering amount of activity for the first 4 or 5 months. It was a great start to a new web site and a very exciting time.

2. Quake is difficult to purchase firsthand; combined with the fact that Quake is an older game there is more difficulty in growing the community. Fortunately, id Software and John Romero have provided us the means to change that in the near future.

And ... as far as administration goes ... Solecord has been very busy, Yellow seems to be busier and I have my streaks of being very busy as well. The limits of an all-volunteer effort.

Yeah, pretty much, because we certainly aren't having a campfire on dm3.

Like I said, you don't have to listen to anything I say, so don't get pissy when you hear something you don't like.

And as for Baker and lack of time to administrate, maybe you should consider taking on more team members. If you can't do a job, step down.

These forums were intended to be nearly moderation free so anyone can say what they think and exchange ideas freely.

You seem to like it and take advantage of it, how is it different if it is, say, Mindzfield doing it?

/Remember your spell correcting binges, your exchanges with Joao, critiques of Gunter (who wasn't even registered here) and who knows who else.

By the way, as we speak there are 44 players on the servers in the front page server browser, which isn't bad and not usual in the evenings, especially considering when the site started, 25 would have been a lot. Not everyone who plays visits these forums often or even ever so the forums don't really represent the community on a whole.

You know as well as I do Baker that I've been in a fair share of arguments. That's all fine, but do I look back on those arguments and say "I got something out of that?" No. Frankly, I wouldn't have been delighted if somebody with some courage would have closed it before it became the flamefest it was.

But then again, I didn't go around calling everyone a ***, making entire threads to flame one person, and numerous other personal attacks. Maybe that's what makes me different from Mindz.

Baker, get your facts straight. I've never been one to hold back what I think of people, but you look back at my posts, I gave actual reasons for disliking individuals, and you can dispute those as much as you want, the point remains, I didn't use petty hatred to get people on my side. And I still uphold that anyone I had bad feelings about deserved it, I wanted them gone for the good of the website and when you see new members embarrassed by the forums when they see people acting like dumbasses, I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from.

Baker, don't try to get witty, I put down my opinions without ridiculing anyone, and if you see a problem with that than you can understand why I left the site in the first place.

I agree with all of that -- at least a lot of it -- but the reality is people will be people. I'm sure you remember there were plenty of heated debates and name calling in the early days of the site -- it was a very small percent, but due to such high volume it was actually far more than now.

The Quake vs. Quakeworld arguments, the "eQuake Debates", "Baker killed Quake Terminus" threads :d, people objecting to the new "no warez" forum rule and arguing that illegal Quake links shouldn't be moderated (and 3-4 people actually arguing that this site should ADVOCATE stealing Quake -- of all things) and whatever else -- there was a lot of it.

Arguing isn't unique to the forums, it happens on the servers (worse than here!) and on IRC and not just in this community.

That one thread about Canadian Sniper was a little much, in hindsight maybe it should have been closed earlier or maybe it shouldn't have been closed at all (there isn't a way of knowing).

The only world without drama is one with no people in it, mistakes happen and it isn't the end of the world.

I will say -- although I know that there are some that will disagree with this -- I found the forums more entertaining and engaging when you were around more.

what makes you different from me son,is that I actually put time into Quake1 the game,which means I am out there getting dirty with gib's on many forms of mod's of Quake. Tonite I went back to Shmack after long hiatus from that server (QuadRaptor showedup . I communicate with people in-game and on IRC more so than on this forum by a long shot. Bank, you and Sniper have always been forum trolls and much less of Quakers,thats why I detest you and your existance on these forums(including Sniper).Anyone "new" to these forums comes and see's me flaming you or Sniper and immediately thinks "Wow this mindz is a childish foul mouthed newb" or something to that effect,and honestly,I dont care.I can give two shits about what anyone on THESE FORUMS thinks about me,because this forum is absolutely nothing to me compared to the likes of 1]This Website 2]It's content outside of the forums 3]The news that is relayed to me through this website. It's pretty simple stuff.

I play CA exclusively,CRMOD occasionally,RA,CTF,and I even played some IHOC with [DbE]RonJeremy and [DbE]LordIc3s tonite.

Baker- Thank you for actually replying, and I'll meet you half-way and say I agree with most of the stuff you brought up, but I still think that forums need moderation.

Mindz- Yeah I pretty much expected you to go on and on about the same shit you whine about day after day. Nothing new, just another list of personal attacks with no substance.
