My main intention for NewDM was to see how quake would run with few alterations to increase the deathmatching pleasure. On the top of my head of getting the first build up I nerfed the armour to be one colour down. Two people have disagreed with this and so I want to call a vote. I totally agree with any opinions.
My reasoning for nerfing the armour: Red Armour (200 of 80% absorb) plays a huge part of map control. Anyone with Red Armour will last for a very long time and anyone controlling the Red Armour pickups will definitely win the match. This is why I made green armour the norm and the yellow armour to be the best (unless you got quad). Yellow armour absorbs 60% which is still good and a lot better than 30%. As Papasmurf said, the YA is just like the GA but I must add that you will survive longer with YA than you would with GA.
Red Armour is almost like a powerup that respawns every 20 seconds. It's better than the quad. It's probably the most powerful item in the game. This is why I took it out and replaced the Pent with red armour (and 5 seconds invuln). Armour shouldn't play a HUGE role in protecting you.
Anyways, I successfully changed the weapons in deathmatch without having to change the GL and RL so perhaps I should treat armour the same way. Or perhaps give GA and YA other benefits that RA doesn't have. Give input.
If I change the armour back, I will have to change the PENT powerup to something else. I don't really want to change it back to 30 invulnerability but here's a thought. How about for 30 or 60 seconds, damage taken is retorted back to the attacker. Similar to the rune of vengeance in runequake. Just a thought. I could make it so all weapon damage is retorted except for axe.
So vote and give input. I think this is a touchy subject.
