  • hmm... Why?

So i've been playing on rage.quakeone.com clan arena server for the last couple of weeks... I'm an old school quake guy back from the late 1990's... Anyways, I join the rage.quakeone.com server this evening and ready up... All of a sudden, i lose connection to the server... So i rejoin the server and ready up again... once again i lose connection... thinking is something to do with my connection, i try to join up one more time... and i notice it says... "you are banned from this server." what's up with that? I never said a word to anybody... Is that how quakeone.com servers are admin'd? Banned for no reason? Just curious...

I got kicked from bogo.quakeone.com to make room for [nfa]jesus and his group to 2v2. then i joined again and got all my keys unbound. idk about rage, but im never going to bogo again.

Nah. I think someone who shouldn't have an admin code has got one.

I got renamed on Rage when I was doing some testing.

On my todo list is making my engines immune to the following features when sent from a server.

unbindallkeys/unbind - Is used by abusive admin types.
bind (RQ and FvF do this sometimes, I hate it.)
name - a server has no need to rename someone
fov - (the RQ mod messes with FOV and I hate that)
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

i highly doubt this is an innocent moment, you might have opengl32, or have triggered cax anti-cheat measures, but 10 to 1 odds say that it's something you were doing directly or indirectly. if you continually CC the wrong team and don't pay attention to an admin that can cause problems, but this seams pretty obvious your client or quake content was pissing off cax mod..

still waiting for the net to be turned off!!

monster, bogo is privately run and can not be compared to rage, these two different circumstances really have nothing to do with one another.

Jawbreaker if you tell me when it happened I can check the logs.

If you repeatedly join and unbalance the teams. Generally any admin present will warn you, kick you, and eventually ban you (temporary) if you keep doing it. Not saying thats what you did, just explaining if that was the case.

                  Hi yellow no. 5,

That may have been it, but I was banned with no warning as to what I was doing wrong. I was almost positive me joining made the teams even... and if not, there was somebody else waiting as well. I joined twice and thought I lost connection to the server (my internet sucks) in which i rejoined again. Evidentally I was being kicked, and not losing my connection. That's the only reason I rejoined again and readied up again. I guess it doesn't say "you've been kicked", it just says connection was lost. And then I tried joining again and again, and then realized i was getting a "You are banned" message. It happened about 5 minutes before I made this post to the forums... around 7:05pm (whatever timezone these forums are in).

I only got back into quake about 2 weeks ago, haven't played since late 1990's so i guess i didn't understand or realized i was being kicked... I never said a word to anybody

Yeah, that was all me who kicked and eventually banned you. It's not permanent, but when people CC into even games(and on to the team that's winning 3-0) I kick them without warning. Getting kicked is not a very big deal in my opinion since all you have to do is reconnect. Then you came back and did the same exact thing. I didn't know however that you hadn't been to rage before. I thought you were just one of the many people who try to be dicks and mess up even teams. I'll make more of an effort to communicate next time. Also, if you're not sure about how many are on each team just type "teams" in the console and it will list the number of people on each team including which players are on which team...

thats pretty gay spoon. yes maybe they just have to reconnect, but its very insulting to kick someone. you're gonna respond: I don't have to justify my decision to no one (we'll ignore the double negative), if you don't like it then take your ass elsewhere. well, i have. i used to play at rage but the admining has gone downhill so i hardly ever play there nemore

Well if you consider kicking someone gay, so be it. I consider cc'ing into an even match gay. And if you're not smart enough to see that it's an even game then I won't feel bad for a second about kicking you(or worse). I kick or ban for two things: shit talking or cc'ing into an even game when you're not asked to. I don't think that's unreasonable at all.

A kick without a verbal warning to the person just seems odd to me, especially if to the person being kicked it looks like a connection was dropped. If you kick someone, and they immediately rejoin, they clearly didn't get the message - which is to say, kicking isn't sufficient. You should always communicate with the violator, at least on a basic level, and call them out by name.

Then again if the server is running any form of modified progs.dat, it should check for even teams and either automatically prevent joining once the match has begun, or auto-assign you to the team with a lower score.

If I get kicked from a server without a warning or notification of why, I don't return to the server, because I feel no need to play under an incompetent admin.

I suppose it would be better to have the option for admins to force players to observer, instead of kick. But Spoon there is an option called SETCCLOCK for admins to lock the match in progress so no one can CC. It's probably better to set this during matches that are even after the 1st round. and possibly toggle it after the teams become uneven...

If only more servers used this attitude

I also don't plan on returning to Rage since I was banned(still banned)for no good reason and kicked for playing how I wanted to play, which wasn't making teams uneven even though I sent an apology to Yellow No.5, he wants me to apologize on the forums for my action on the forums which is why I am banned from Rage, thats one of the preposterous reasons given to me by Yellow No.5.

I am banned from Rage for my "actions" on a public forum...
Thats "One" of the reasons... Hmmmm... Ok...

Rage needs a new admin line up to me as it's clearly an issue to the server. I'd say R00k is probably the only decent admin as I haven't heard or seen him do anything thats caught negative attention. As for the rest, its play their way or no way, even if you simply want to play without the feeling of being babysitted when its not needed.

Using shotgun in Quake isn't a good reason for a ban. using axe in Quake isn't a good reason to ban. Using any weapon in Quake isn't reason enough to ban someone. Wanting to play Quake doesn't make a ban justifiable if its not the admin's vision of playing Quake. But Rage will always be Rage
