    THE CHALLENGE IS OVER

    1:17

    **********************************

Fulfilling the requirements, Slugnut has completed the quakeone challenge in 1:17 using two very smart techniques. If you still wish to beat the challenge, you have a week to fulfill the same requirements except you have to beat Slugnut's time instead of 2 minutes.

    **********************************

Like Zomg another one?!?!?! Fuck! I wonder what the challenge is going to be this time. Thankfully this is more of a quake related challenge. And no one is going to be able to complete it because you're all newbs.

There are three 1 player servers setup thanks to Polarite, Phenom, and Vis:
    • whitehot.quakeone.com:26000 (America)
    • 76.220.231.130:26000 (America)
    • quake1challenge3.mine.nu:26004 (Europe)
    • quake1challenge3.mine.nu:26005 (Europe)

They will only run the map e3m2 and your job is to speed run it. Right now I have the time limit set for 2 minutes. If 2 weeks go by with no winners, I'll give you guys another minute. I know it's tight.

What you are required to do is demo yourself completing the map in under 2 minutes. Some clients will not record passed the first map change but I've heard that there are tools to cut in between them. But just to be safe, bind a key to RECORD Q1C for every attempt you make.

    Requirements:
    • You can't die once. If you die, start over by using "Impulse 111"
    • The first shambler you come across has to die by any means necessary
    • You must supply a valid quake demo as proof

Fulfill the requirements and complete the level before the 2 minute timelimit and you get the PRIZE! I'll let Baker come up with a prize. Probably another custom name tag again

GL HF DD I'm just kidding you're going to die.

    A lot.

    Cheers (b)

oh ya, if you do complete it there will be a 1 week wait for anyone who can beat your time.

@Baker. Could you announce this on the frontpage perhaps? I don't care if it's a one liner

    edit: Thanks Baker

for those of you using Qrack: dont use cl_autodemo for this for it will crash..

(incompatibility issue with DarkPlaces server.. maybe the latest Qrack build has fixed this.. i dunno)

I first ran qstat to see if anyone was in the server.

            Code:
            # qstat quake1challenge3.mine.nu:26004
ADDRESS PLAYERS MAP RESPONSE TIME NAME
            quake1challenge3.mine.nu:26004 0/ 1 e3m2 187 / 0 QuakeOne Challenge 3

            # qstat quake1challenge3.mine.nu:26005
ADDRESS PLAYERS MAP RESPONSE TIME NAME
            quake1challenge3.mine.nu:26005 0/ 1 e3m2 203 / 0 QuakeOne Challenge 3
Looks empty. I'll fill up one server and try connecting with another client to see what messages I get.

            Darkplaces:
            Code:
            ]connect quake1challenge3.mine.nu:26005

            Trying to connect...
"challenge 3y>[email protected]<V" received, sending connect request back to 84.198.99.145:26005
            Got challenge response
            Server is full.
            WinProquake:
            Code:
            ]connect quake1challenge3.mine.nu:26005
            Setting port to 26005
            trying...
            Server is full.
            Host_Error: connect failed
Seems normal. I'd tried connecting with WinProquake when the server was in intermission. I connected just fine.

I don't know what to tell you. Maybe the server was occupied at the time or maybe the quake engine you're using just behaves that way. What quake engine are you using?

It could also be your ISP not allowing you to connect there. You can try one of these two commands: ping or traceroute (tracert on windows)

            Code:
            ping quake1challenge3.mine.nu
If you get a response, your ISP isn't the problem

            Code:
            traceroute quake1challenge3.mine.nu
If traceroute finishes without showing the code below then your ISP isn't the problem:

            Code:
              2 * * * Request timed out.
              3 * * * Request timed out.
              4 * * * Request timed out.
              5 * * * Request timed out.
              6 * * * Request timed out.
              7 * * * Request timed out.

the dns name does resolve to an ip so that's not the problem.

i tried using ezquake. i'll try a few other engines to see what i get. it is also possible that i didn't setup my router correctly...

Did you set the correct port? Depending on the client either connect like this:
                connect quake1challenge3.mine.nu:26004
                or like this:
                port 26004
                connect quake1challenge3.mine.nu

ezquake is a quakeworld engine and the 2 darkplaces servers are running under the QUAKE protocol which means only netquake clients can join. So that might be the problem.

Try giving Proquake, Unofficial Proquake, Joequake, Qrack, or Darkplaces a try.

J/K if I see one more horde of zombies I'm going to delete C*S from my IM list for causing me so much grief with his new zombies and their new dash attack...

Don't die! It's a perfect plan! If you don't die you can't lose!

But the undead zombies have a similar plan. And since they're already dead they have to make sure they Don't.... suck!
