One reason I don't like Darkplaces is for thr way it handles lightning. If you don't use smooth-sweep lightning, it looks like crap. If you do, the lightning on your screen isn't where the lightning is in the packets going to/from you and the server.

You have a typo up there. Let me fix it for you

Darkplaces has a powerful separate multi-player(up to 255 players!) and amazing lighting!

Smooth sweep lightning would be accurate if you had LAN ping which you don't when playing online. This isn't a darkplaces only feature, joequake and I think qrack offers this as well. Don't use it then.

As for the lightning looking like crap, change it. lol

Yeah, but now you just need 255 Quake players.

Honestly, Lord Havoc's Dark Places is the hands down best coded Quake engine.
So much thats at some perspective its not quake anymore. But a great engine to mod into a fresh game (Nexius). But, DP supports a shitload of options across the board. I'd be wrong not to say that LH hasnt pathed the golden brick road for the rest of us little people follow. At times i feel Qrack is a bloated mess. It's kinda like ezQuake minus the groat of 1000 users. But for me if i had to vote on the accomplishments of a Quake engine, Dark (fuckin) Places wins without a doubt. But in the end, it really depends on your preference, and your rig.
                bottom line- Quake on..!

I don't think you give Qrack enough credit. The primary reason I like Qrack more than the others is because it's true to the original Quake - just with enhanced graphics and effects. Qrack is the only Engine I can use with all the eye candy while keeping 75fps the entire time. You've also added so many nifty features to Qrack that no other engines have. You only call Qrack a bloated mess, because people like me point out the tiny errors in the new features you implement. However, you are always quick to fix these errors, and most people don't even know they exist in the first place.

I'll always like Qrack the best.

Darkplaces might be a greatly coded engine, but it is not the best coded Quake engine. It breaks way too many maps and mods.

qrack has delayed movement + shooting, i press the buttons and i dont get instant response or rockets not coming out fast enough, i felt it when i played it, thats why i dropped it fast. and it's not my comp, i have a high end system, its the engine. it doesn't happen with the others, as a comparison. thats my only beef with it. features are great, eveything is great, but if the gameplay has this major flaw, it is unusable for competition gaming, something that handicaps me it is not acceptable.

if whoever coded this engine fixes this, so the response time is on par with glpro (or faster and include some qw code in there for high pings (so i can play overseas), i will deff. switch to it permanently, but until then no. and by the way, graphically i love it. but if i were to choose graphics over gameplay, i choose gameplay. fix this, and it would be great, as it would have both.

rook, u responsible for this, no? also why when i die, u respawn so slowly, i press space bar multiple times and it seems it takes me an extra second or two, to get back into the game, why? and yes death motion blur was turned off, i must see where the enemy is after i die and where they are going so that when i respawn i can go after them.

thanks for listening, this was my input.

Paradise, see my post over in the Qrack thread:

I don't have any problems with delayed movement here.

Which maps which mods? I haven't seen it breaking anything. By break you mean crash? Or like someone threw a baseball through your glass window?

Yeah, I'm using Qrack with Malice, one of the best FULL modded addons I've see and it's great! No log, sound is on, graphics, lighting and shading is very responsive and accurate. I don't notice any lag either, and I'm NOT on a high end system atm... The only thing(s) that bother me about Qrack is that it doesn't like holding certain settings like: always run OFF. I don't want to play the game going 50mph, I'd like to SEE the textures and add a little difficulty to it Vs circle strafing around everything and destroying them before they can even get a shot off etc... And it doesn't like to use my edited config.cfg settings some times. But either way I've got it working the way I like and them's the breaks!

Again... HOW can I get email notification of these posts? I cannot find the setting?

Do you have the latest version of Qrack? If so, then try setting cl_loadmapcfg to "0". cl_loadmapcfg tends to force Qrack not to save settings if you make them while in the game. Turning it off might solve your problem.

Canadian*Sniper: Many hacks don't work with it because "bugs" are "fixed"
Items fall out of maps sometimes etc.
Also it uses QW physics per default for Singleplayer and that sucks.
