I'm banned from speaknow

Tonight sunshine was abusing admin like he usually does when he gets drunk. He banned several people, including me, all started with him slaying me, muting me for no reason. He ruined at least 8 games, and thats a conservative number, kicking/banning randoms, muting me randomly, then banning me afterwards.

I'd recommend this ...

#1 You are probably only temp banned
#2 because permanent bans can't be done with an admin code in CAx
#3 and no one except Dreadful and possibly someone extraordinarily trusted (Yellow?) would have access to the server itself
#4 temp bans last until the map changes
#5 which can be a long time if a server sits on DM3 all day

So ...

Get someone to change the map. Even a simple warp to DM3 will reset the map and clear the temp ban. In fact ... this would be a necessary step no matter what to clear any kind of ban.

Short story: Get the map changed and the temp ban vanishes.

It's easy to say "once certain people get admin,everyone gets admin" when your not in the "who has admin loop" , but im sure able bodies are making those decisions,and when some one steps out of line and gives out admin that shouldnt be,it will be handled,along with abusive admin's.

Sunshine banned me a while back from speaknow...I was talking to someone with not many people on the server, he comes on and decides he doesn't want me talking so much and without any warning bans me. He's definitely an abusive admin.

I pay for 1/3 of speaknow, as does dreadful and sunshine...general policy of the server is for all involved to make config/perm ban/etc decisions.

Frenzy doesn't have admin.

zenkai and Spoon(Dave) do have admin.

Sunshine is involved out of genuine interest in helping the quake community...but being a raging alcoholic appears to be getting in the way of that. Omicron is generally fine, and in any case he is entirely tolerable for anyone familiar with 14y/o argument tactics. The best admins in the quake community IMO are spoon and mindz, as both show up to play, not to admin...and just admin if they have to. This probably also applies to zenkai but he's not around that much. Really dreadful is pretty ideal as well.

No matter how justified any particular admin action is, it generally pisses someone off. Every drunken/roid raging/coke head 21y/o asshole thinks they should do wetf they want unless the MOTD expressly states "like, no joining green team when it's 3v4 redvblue". Or some dumbass thinks they should be able to sit observer and argue with and heckle the people playing the game w/o getting kicked off the server. I think both mithril and eieio hate me now for this despite me warning them for 5 minutes that I was going to kick them (from observing)?

I get involved with the running of servers because I can deal with the fact that you cant make everyone happy, and for some reason for most that means hate the person who is making and effort to try make everyone happy. I have never setup/admined any server to my liking, just to what I thought would make the most number of people play the game.

I think this thread is legit and helps let others know what's going on, even if the information given is false. These forums help give out a public voice and this thread is no exception. If I was a victim of admin abuse, I'd post about it

Oh ya, the DumbAss thing...the mod does that when you try to use an improper name like name "" or something, or also if you dc and reconnect sometimes.

I wouldn't call kicking a few of us for no apparent reason a pin drop..
we come to play, not get kicked.

All the issues you stated could be handled within the mod. No admin is needed there.

and btw while talking excessively in mm1 during a game is irritating. kicking someone for it is retarded Get Bam or R00k to put these features in CAX then you don't have to babysit the server as much

R00k notified me that such features that require no admins around are available in the mod already. The admins of the CAx servers just choose not to enable them if I recall correctly. As for a chat ban, that could be implemented by compiling your own version of the proquake engine to allow that. Say you chat 3 times in 5 seconds and you get a 1 minute chat ban.

That's where CAx renames you if there are invalid characters in your name. (There is also an admin option to do it.)

This happened to me once and I thought someone did it to me intentionally. Until I connected one time and it happened an no one was there.

/Rook or Bam plz confirm this is automatic CAx feature for stuff like blank names, etc.?

Actually Baker, it's not automaic like dequake works but this is a silly admin option that was added, to change someone's name to something demeaning, or something I didnt add this option, and it's become less a feature worth having now that the community has grown over a few friends into a few more.. that might not appreciate the utility..

yes this will be changed to something ambiguous as unconnected will cause problems, and unnamed looks funny. Maybe something like 'anonymous'. As no one wants someone to sit idle on a server with the name "", as they wont show up on the scoreboard.
