You are mistaken about the command. What pldown 3 or 4 refers to is how many active players there are in the round, together, on each team, while the rest have to wait.

For example, blue and red, 5v5. Pldown 4 means 2 players wait until someone dies, so in reality its 4v4 at a time. Pldown 3 means its 3v3 at a time. In CA on DM3 since theres unlimited ammo, pldown 4 is ridiculous and most skilled players cannot stand it. Speaknow's admins are extremely unresponsive to changing the status quo of 4, which makes for really boring / lame games. When the games aren't fun, there's less participation. When there's less participation over large amount of time, less people start showing up. A certain percent of these people get so discouraged / frustrated they just stop showing up completely and quit the game.

The trend I have noted, when speaknow first started there was record participation. As I played more and more I realized how there wasn't really any room for fun in a 4 man game where everyone is spamming and the people at the top are hiding and shooting from the best positions the game has to offer (yellow armor, pent window, ra, etc.) due to being strapped down from multiple attack angles and spam.

I stopped playing more, I noticed most of the time when I checked the server most of the people playing were generally less skilled. Over time the servers population has really changed from just about everyone good to bad to a population of lesser skilled players who mostly spam.

right right, i did get confused about that. My bad.

I don't think I've played on a server with 3, so I'd be interested in trying it out sometime.

It may be worth a try to allow players to vote for pldown. Obviously, the vote would be done before the set of rounds start. This would also allow players to choose more players for the larger levels, if desired.

I agree with 3-in, Personally i prefer CA as a 3 on 3 period, (or 4 on 4 game depending on the map), without rotating teammates... but thats just my opinion.

not to sidetrack the thread, but I think it would be interesting to test play the regenerating ammo style and set all ammo very low. For instance it takes 5 seconds to regenerate 1 rocket...etc. This would reduce spam considerably. I even thought about adding backpacks for an option. But then, this is CA. There are a lot of admin settings for any server to setup how ever they wish. But the majority of the settings seem common.

A good admin would make a {map}.cfg file and restrict the 'setstartplayers' option based on the type of map.
