    I will not play ctf if its like this. I think you should try the 20 second respawn only and not make it weapon stay on top of that,

    I would agree with you if people still moved around the maps as slowly as they did when CTF was first being played. But the speed at which the game is played today necessitates a change to how weapons spawn times are handled. You must realize that there are certain levels where it is just too easy for one team to simply control all the weapons; this does not make games fun. Weapon control is the primary strategy in team DM, I don't see why it's the primary strategy in CTF; capturing the flag should be the primary strategy.

    Additionally, the grapple hook is overpowered, imo, and giving players more accessibility to weapons will allow them a fighting chance to even damage a skilled grapple monkey.

    I guess what I'm saying is this, if you want weapon control and normal weapon respawn times ctf, then remove the grapple hook. But with the grapple hook the way it is, the game is very fast, and thus you need to be able to get a weapon very fast.

      I actually kind of like this idea. So it'd kinda be like CA as in round scoring? That doesn't really ruin the game. I don't know, I just like the idea.

      And as far as the weapon respawn time, that seems nice. I haven't had a chance to play it, busy because of warm weather so I'm not on here much. One of the reasons MTOWN was so damn popular was because of the weapon stay. It gives "newbies" a chance to get weapons and have a fighting chance. The experienced players should have no problem with a short respawn, or a weaponstay, because the experienced players can fight either way.

        thats exactly right, newbies like this idea because it is a newb idea. Weapon stay is stupid. It takes any fucking skill out of ctf. it will promote suicide runs and suicide kills... just to lower the flag carries health. Knowing u can respawn and grab another weapon... just ridiculous.

          I think it promotes better teamwork. The flag carrier will more likely need escorts to safely return the flag.

            make the level rain team blood, whenever a flag capture happens... it rains RED or BLUE on the entire level for 20seconds... then it goes back to normal sky... until another cap... then repeat. ^_^

                    CTF Revival

                    I have always liked CTF it is IMO the best mod ever made for Q1.
                    The problem is learning to grapple fast enough to get armed before
                    You are fragged again.
                    I am amazed that none of the suggestions from 2 years ago were implemented about decreasing weapon spawning times.
                    The good CTF players can make a flagrun in about 10 seconds so if
                    weapons take 30 seconds to refresh you can be Fragged 2 or 3 times before it even comes back.
                    My partner got a bit upset with me and rightly so saying
                    "It's Capture the FLAG , not Capture the RL!!!!
                    When I had to leave the main route to avoid being gibbed and find a weapon.
                    I have no Clue why anyone would try to apply DM timing to CTF
                    CTF is a HI-speed Gibfest and needs much faster weapon spawns.
                    There is a huge gulf for new players to cross to play this mod well.
                    The thing to ask yourself is
                    DO YOU WANT NEW PLAYERS?
                    If you do you have to do something about this speed issue.
                    Some other things that will bring more out to play is the quad camping so prevalent in ctf has to change.

                      The alternate timings for weapon spawns were implemented but only as an ADMIN option. We tested it for about 2 days and most of the normal players didnt care much about it. If you are good at CTF, it really doesnt matter what options are set, as long as the hook speed is consistent, and runspeed is normal, weapon damage is normal etc. Quad, pent, runes whatever thats just as much different strategy as playing on a different map. Newbs want weapon-stay, runes, & power-ups. Elite players can kill newbs just as easy with or without, it's the moderate player in the middle skill class that gets pissed off with or without these options set. There's nothing wrong with weapon stay, it just makes for a faster game. The strategy is still the same.

                      No one really CAMPS Quad, if you watch the clock you know Quad wil spawn AGAIN, one minute AFTER you take it or 30 seconds After you hear it end. Just be near Quad about the time you think it's going to spawn, give or take 5 seconds. That's called strategy, and skill. Randomizing quad spawn time would remove all that and then its just like playing bingo. I used to think Quad was like megahealth and spawned 30 seconds after it ended. Like if someone was killed with Quad, before it ran out it would respawn earlier. That would make it more challenging for sure! Might even think about adding that as an option. But as it is now, Quad spawn-time always progress +60 based on when it's taken.

                          a rather hilarious quad hax was done by the hating ctf guys back in the day -- if you died with quad before it had run its course, the quad would drop just like a pack or a rune does. someone could pick it up and become quadded for the time that was left on it. that came in handy when noobs on steering wheels would take a quad and blow themselves up 2 seconds later... fun factor x 10.

                            Rook, can you please run a test with the 3wave mod on weaponstay for two weeks, show up on Sundays and see how the games go.. Quake has long run it's course.. it is well worth a try at this late point in decline and it could be something new and refreshing..

                            to be completely honest.. unless you're playing a game where all players are equally good (highly unlikely) .. the top grapplers can grab 2-3 RLs (depending on map) before a low-mid tier player can grab 1.. from my own experience when I hook with a flag I am able to flag run, grab 2 rocket launchers, a quad, a 100h, and red armor in a span of 5-15 seconds (again depending on map - capturephob versus red alert)..

                            People who don't hook well won't have a chance to even see the light of day with these items.. so it skews the game in their favor and gives a balanced all around matchup instead of top players leading in scores and everyone else just dying without weapons; in DM, shotgun/distance can effectively counter a player with RL and no armor, where as in CTF .. a shotgun is utterly useless and could be disabled and no one would notice..

                              Yeah, it would be fun to setup a configuration that would allow more players to play without a total /rageQuit scenario. Sure it might be remedial to us formidable players, but unless we wanna stare at Ramp's ass all day while he runs flag captures, we sure could use new players I just dont have Admin access to any of the servers I suppose I could host one as a trial run...

                                i think its a terrible idea. i love ctf, that would ruin it for me. like someone, who i forgot said, running the weapons is part of a strategy. im trying to get more people to ctf, please dont f it up.
