Why? We already have shmack and fear. All the rq newbies flock to shmack, fear is almost never graced with the presence of players. Why waste your time/effort/money? Everyone loves shmack.e|------------------------0---------------

Sure, for elites. All the RQ noobies bitch and complain. Having a game there is putting up with all their crying and constant immature console spamming of "you cheat, you bot, why don't you die" and all the other bullshit.
Go for it! I assume you will host it and admin it right, lol.

Why would anyone create a server for only a specific group of player types? I can see mod choice, but making a server exclusively for a certain level of skill is down right retarded.
Make a server where everyone can feel comfortable. both new and old, thats the key.

What is retarded is these stupid noobies running around crying "bot," "cheat" and hurling degrading insults. Nobody is comfortable around that. I am welcoming this moderated server, we can have grown-up games without all that crap, and all the kiddies stay at the door or can be all muted.
They always have Shmack to fall back on. Once they grow up and are down for some serious intense high-skilled games, they can come over to Urdead's server. That is the idea.
Urdead, how do you feel about all of this?

All I would have to do is add the game, in place of our current ET server. It's no skin off my teeth..
I actually played on Shmack last night for a few. Gave some pretty good dudes a run for their money. Who did I play against last night? Most of my config needs work and I never tried Qrack (Xquake no longer works), so I was pretty raw (config, keys). Still did well. It was fun. Almost beat them both, coming in the middle of it.
If you need a server that carries a "no whining" sign, that sounds good to me.
Edit: Also, check your pings to this IP: 74.208.78.126
Maybe it'll get you a better game.Last edited by urdead; 05-14-2008, 07:39 AM.

Why in place? Can you not run it on the same box under a different port or partition?
That way you can keep both.
GLPRO3.50 works pretty good or you can use Baker's version of it which has more added features.
I will be on the server in a few if you want to play with me.

Shmack is moderated. Slot just isn't going to kick people for whining. If it is so tiresome, then just turn off chat. I get called a bot regularily but I still leave chat up, I just choose to ignore the bot-callers. It isn't difficult really. People have been whining and bot calling since the inception of quake. Slot has taken the initiative to mute the most annoying whiners (Scoffer) but kicking/banning them would be stupid considering the small fan base Quake still has.
About the OP, I wouldn't say another RQ server is needed, but I wouldn't be adverse to playing there if it were created. BTW, hi Urdead! Long time no see.Last edited by Cherrie; 05-14-2008, 12:33 PM.

Yeah, nice playing with you all today!
Our ET server isn't very busy so turning it off will save resources. We could have both on if needed.

Like Cherrie said, clients these days have the ability to turn chat sounds off, or if you are mentally sound enough.... Ignore them.

Generally I'll keep playing and ignore bot calling until there's one person that just does it over and over and over. Recently there was some dude that kept calling Tia a cheat over and over, and after a while I spoke up and told the dude to give it a rest. He of course tried to get into some big argument about her being a cheat, but that was when the level was changing so I missed all of it and didn't bother to scroll back up to read it.
Still, it's not very hard to ignore all the bot calling. Personally I take it as a compliment when someone accuses me of cheating, because I know I am not and it just means that the person accusing me thinks I play well enough to have "bot-like skillz". But when someone keeps bugging whoever's at the top of the scoreboard again and again, then I think something needs to be done.

I don't e4ven know where this "closing off to 80-90% of players" idea came from, but I wouldn't do that with another server. I'd rather have it open to all...

I am assuming he means those players who do not play RQ, like CA players. I dropped in on a CA game tonight and was promptly told to GTFO which I am assuming means "get the f*** out" They aren't the friendliest group of Quakers left.
I do find it hard to believe that only 10% of Quakers left play RQ, but I am assuming that is where he was going with that complaint.
