  • Screen Resolution w/Quake

I don't know if screen resolution leads to more precision with weapons in Quake. Maybe it does.

I've always used 640 x 480. I've tried 800 x 600, but either the letters are distorted or, if I use -conwidth 400 -conheight 300, the letters are too large.

1024 x 768 doesn't seem to move rapid enough for me and gets lower fps.

I also use -bpp 16 for speed. I have a GeForce 2 on a 2 GHz machine, and really don't care enough to go get an upgrade to a better card.

i've always used 1152x864x32, max detail, for ages since I got my TNT2.

I also use 1152x864x8 in software mode when available.

Some say that using 1280x1024 is heretical because it is not 4:3 like 1280x960, 1024x768, 640x480.

640x480 when I play online, 800x600 when I play singleplayer with QRack. I always like using low resolution when I play online, you get better ping and better FPS.

I'll check when I get home, but I think I'm running mine in 1600x900.

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

1024x768 for me. Used to use 800x600 but when I started messing around with Qrack I went to 1024 and stuck with it.

I know what you mean. I installed Qrack the other night. It's incredible at the res I run it in.

Grim .. Higher resolution does look a lot nicer, I agree.

Hehe, I use 640x480 in single player on map releases for the better fps. I'm so used to the multiplayer aim that switching to a high resolution for single player feels all wrong.

                        How is that possible?

perhaps because the video card doesn't have enough memory? 1mb video cards often only have a 640x480x24 mode at the maximum as well as 800x600x16 and 1024x768x8.

                            320x240

In case you're wondering, I'm the sole 320x240!

I always used 320x240 software mode for quake1. Even when I had an OpenGL card (or two in SLI), I still preferred software rendering at 320x240.

It just seemed to always be the smoothest. I'm very particular about lag in terms of FPS performance. I always turn down the graphics options to the bare minimum even today in quake 3. I can't use 320x240 in Quake3 because the mods have menus and you can't even read them.

Good graphics settings are for making quake movies not for playing!

I understand your stance kbd but Q3A is a fast engine... max everything, trilinear and so on, 1600x1200 runs smooth as Monster's bottom.
