this is how I was first introduced to Quake, I played it on the N64. looking back on it..I noticed its the first time Quake had colored lightning, the skies were awesome, and the music is really cool. same guy who made the Doom 64 music made it I think. back in the 90s, I was more of a console gamer. hell, the first fps I ever saw was Doom on SNES.

Its great thinking about all those classic games of yesterday isn't it. Games like mario 64 or goldeneye 007, are ground breaking regardless of how old they are.

I don't get how people could possibly play a shooter like quake on a console. Seems way too restrictive to me.

yeah, a mouse and keyboard is the way. the precision aiming and everything..that's why I don't understand all these halo and cod fans playing on xbox 360.

Well, those guys might have never used a mouse+kb either. When I started quake I used only KB.

I've barely started watching the 1st demo but, Ive noticed the nice skys, lits, fading console output (nice), centerprint levelname on start (mhQuake does this too), nice music. Though, if you look closely it appears that e1m1 is NOT the original map. For instance look at the beginning " you can jump accross here" area, looks solid. Dunno maybe its just the aspect ration but the map looks taller too.

Is the downloadable? Can we use it on an emulator for testing further??

the structure is way different, you definitely aren't seeing things. one of the more noticeable things is the blue bridge on e1m2, its leveled up instead of down. maybe some of this is to increase frame rate? there is a rom for Quake N64, but unfortunately..it flickers on a lot of emulators and you can see through walls or doors will be invisible. if you think the level looks taller, you should see the saturn version of quake.

not nearly as good looking as Quake 64

anyways, go here for the rom. there might be a good video plugin out there that will help it work better

Emuparadise.org - N64, Playstation, Dreamcast, Snes, Genesis, Arcade, Nes, MAME...

you can also dump the textures if your interested in trying the different slime, water, and sky textures with the rice video plugin.

            Rice Video 6.1.0c - HiRez Texture Loader - EmuTalk.net

the best n64 emulators are either Project 64 or Mupen64

I might dump the other textures later and apply them to the .map files

I wish there was a way to extract .lits from those maps. Quake on N64 had some pretty cool lighting (especially with the colored stuff).

Music for Doom was done by a guy called Bobby Prince. The Quake soundtrack was done by Trent Reznor, thus the NIN logo on the nailgun ammo. But you already knew that .

The N64 games have different soundtracks.
I wish one could extract them.
