I just had an idea for a new Boss.
A giant Vore with 1000 health which you fight in this massive maze and has Voreballs that move just a little bit faster than you and can corner the maze easily, seeking you out. That would be cool.

Vores although hard, i wouldnt say were annoying, since they are quite rare, even in Hard. As for the Spawn, its the same stratidgy for the Fiend. Watch them jump at you then quickly strafe left or right and they will jump past you. Turn around and face them, step backwards and fire.

The Chylon was a little too easy for a Boss when compared with the Vore and SHamblers. His attack is powerful but his aim is bad even on Hard. Whilst Shub-Niggurath isnt much of a fight but still a great battle to kill her. Cant wait till i face Armagon and the Dragon in the two mission packs.

Funny you say that- I was thinking something similar (although I was thinking it would merely be lots of Vores coming at you from many sides in a large open chamber full of many pillars (or maybe a forest), so you can use the trees/pillars as cover but could easily be routed- or lost).

Wow! Fiends are one thing, but I would very much like to see a clip of someone dodging a spawn like that!

Yeah, Armagon rocks big time- eats action heroes for breakfast (though sadly he could have had some more health- 3 shamblers would probably last longer against your firepower than he does).

The Dragon fight was lame- the dragon itself rarely attacks, most of your concern is on the stupid level layout with narrow paths over lava pits with constant earthquakes knocking you in. Plus you can snipe him from the first room- In my opinion it's the exact opposite I would have wanted in a boss fight.

thanks for that mate. i'll look forward to the dragon battle

anyways the Spawn are probably the most irritating enemy in the game. Any other enemy you can have a plan ready to kill them but you just have to wing it with the Spawn. Unless you find it sleeping then just blast it with a rocket.

No prob - and just to warn you, no matter how tempting it is to chase him (the dragon) around the room (as he is REALLY high up- your rockets miss him by miles unless you aim well in front of him), don't- just stick to the land around the sides of your corner of room so you don't get shaken into the lava. He probably attacks you back once or twice a run- with exploding fireballs.

Anyway, don't sweat it- it's still ok- besides, you'll love Armagon- a quick bit of advice (without giving TOO much away)

-Centroid- they are FAST- and they don't delay before aiming their guns like the other monsters do- these things spray you the second you leap into view!
He shoots FOUR streams of nails, and his tail is insta-gibbing action.
There is a... trick to avoiding him- but it makes him a little too easy sometimes so I'll keep it a secret.

-Gremlins- they are kinda smaller, slower fiends that jump UP instead of forward- do NOT let them take your guns- they actually use up ammo- note that they only steal the gun you were using at the time- meaning if you have your axe, hammer or shotgun out, they can only claw you- not that this is advisable either- just avoid them and kill them quick!

              -Floating Mines
Apparently they move faster if you have your back to them (they still move really slowly though)

-Armagon- not much to say- except he's really quite nasty- expect volleys of rockets and bouncing lasers. Interestingly, getting close to him causes you to be sent flying back (like some kind of repulsor field). Don't get caught out in the open.

              For Armagon's maps-
              They rock- big time
-There ARE some stupid traps (mostly in the Mine level, and a later on has lightning webs instead of nail shooters
-First level of the THIRD episode, there is an awesome outdoor area- which is more explorable than you think
-3 secret levels (one per episode)

you've got me all excited about Armagon now

if only i could get the damned thing to work.

after playing Quake in DOS, i decided to use WinQuake which is what you need to install Armagon but it wont reconise WinQuake for some reason.

i've yet to check my thread i made yesturday but i dunno if i'll ever get it working. if i do, then i cant wait to play it.

also i just played Quake this mourning and found a cool new trick to fighting the Vores. if you run around her really fast and keep your eye on the Voreball, you should be able to lead it to hitting her or if your really clever, make it hit anouther monster so that monster starts on the Vore.

I tried doing that but I can't make them reach- although I can generally avoid them myself easily enough...

Armagon came with a new version of the engine I think. Install a modern Quake engine FFS. Fitzquake, or at least Bengt Jardrup's winquake.

                    The Homepage of Bengt Jardrup

Then you run blahquake.exe -hipnotic +map start
                    Scout's Journey
                    Rune of Earth Magic

I'm confused as to why you would not want to get an up to date client.

                          Nonsense.

Bugs are fixed in the up to date stuff. After all, it's been what, 14 years.

Because bugs are fixed, this means MORE FUN for you.

You want rough, raw, and rugged Quake? Fine. Get Winquake3.50, it's the Quake you're playing -----> no special effects or graphics or alterations. Just a lot smoother, fixed client.

                          Best of luck.

i think he's going for purity

and doesn't quite understand what an updated engine IS.
                            ..or does.

I can totally respect going for purity...But if he understood the engine upgrades, he'd realize he can use them without forsaking that.

I personally am a fan of darkplaces (and was a fan of fuhquake circa 2003)

but you can totally keep the original feel (and look if you want to *shudder*)
in the new engines...in fact none of the engines CHANGE the feel unless you specifically ask for.

WHICH..is why we dont quite get it.

As much fun as up-to-date stuff is, you cant beat the original DOS version of the classic Quake. Although I have been playing Quake in DOS but moved to WinQuake so I can get the Mission Packs working, I now prefer the WinQuake.

Anyways I've decided that there is no need for DOS anyway since on WinQuake for example, if i want 1996 expierence, i just need to lower to the resolution, but on WinQuake, the cd music works.
