Well, since Tei the Telejano author made a tree of almost all the engines ...
... but something that might be interesting to look at are all the dead engines.
Once upon a time, QuakeForge ( http://www.quakeforge.net/ ) had a lot of loyal users and made a lot of noise.
I tried this engine. Magnesium and Alpha-Q were big into this engine, maybe for the Linux ... at one point.
While it had a LOT of features, it had commands and settings beyond all reason and I found trying to even use it or configure it correctly was impossible. If you looked at your config after using it, there were a trillion settings in the config.cfg.
I think that project has been dead 3 or 4 years.

I just wish i had more time to continue working on it.
I have been working on Vr2 (based on QMB) with entar these last few weeks, trying to speed it back up after he has slowed it down. He seems to have managed to half the frame rate from QMB.
