  • Do we need a new Quake server?

    Do we need another server?

    Let�s pretend I subscribe to a dedicated server�or I team up with an existing admin to get a dedicated port�

    What would be the ideal situation? Where should the server reside? (i.e.: New York, Dallas, Virginia, Chicago, or Atlanta� or Canada). Maybe the server can roam every 6 months.

    We�ve got a standard DM, CA, RA, and RQ servers� not sure about CoOp. Do we need something new, old��used? Do we want a Quake Sandbox server?

    Is there a method of load balancing for the current servers? Do we want to set up a repeater to get the east coast and west coast balanced for latency?

    How should it be administrated? Do we have a single or a handful of trusted Admins to moderate? Do we have an admin vote system? Bot admin?

    Input people! Input!

    I'm going to *try* and set up a new CoOp/TF server in my garage over winter break. No promises though.

      Custom TF would be awesome in Netquake, but I doubt that'll happen.

      There's ~40 servers alive for quake1, just take a look at QuakeOne's server browser, or go here:

      I'd think you would wnat to put up a server that offers something that the other 40 don't..

        /No this isn't a joke. It's a Quake-based mod. And it would be popular as hell.

          Something that is missing in the USA is a good FFA server (no runes, no crap, just plain and simple FFA DM)

          The RuneQuake mod would be ideal for this, for it can be setup with loads of vote-able custom maps, and all the runes and whatnot can just be turned off..

          In fact.. RuneQuake owns cr-mod on pretty much all fronts (except for quake-tag )

          (and for the love of god, disable DM3 voting, or it will be stuck on DM3 24/7 )

            Yes a good USA server with the euroquake settings and custom maps would be great.
            Best area for the server would be New-York or some other city on east coast ,then europlayers would ping like 85-110 max what is Nice.

              i think a multi range server reach like yahoo servers do, where each variation of server ip could take you to a server closer to each players location for a better ping even other countries.. as for admin i think a vote system would be better than having a hand full of people with the admin code but not ruling out perm admins... that way it would be majority vote for who gets the boot.. or if vote-kick or vote-12hour-tempban isnt a good idea then a majority vote for a temp admin when needed when perm admins are not around. and each port supporting a different mod ctf,ca,dm,ra,rq,coop, etc... have a vote command for server bot option with skill settings available so when nobody is online people can still play and practice up..and have it where they leave as others join and are able to be voted in with any ammount of players, sorta like q3

                This past week I have been setting up a machine to host game servers including Quake. What I really want to accomplish is to host as many different mods as possible, both old and new. If anyone has any suggestions of a mod or particular configuration of an existing mod to include, please let me know.

                Current Quake mods running are:

                crmod 26000
                team fortress* 26001
                ctf* 26002
                rquake coop 26003
                qball 26004
                cax 26005
                cax 26006
                runequake 26007

                The team fortress and ctf ones are not working properly. Hopefully I will be able to troubleshoot them in the near future. Also the Rquake coop is currently running an older version. These are also for the most part left in default configuration without custom maps.

                The server address is thisserversucks.com.

                  i played this sweet mod zop made for a mission pack, where it was coop but noone could die or everyone started over, and you had to message your health to each other because it didnt respawn

                    instagib/rail freeze tag ... idk if its a mod is even a thing or not if somebody makes it im talkin about like the one in q4.. ... and maybe couple of total conversion mods ha that would be pimp for multi player get creative, and ctf and dm old skool mint and hating style.. btw mint had the nade launcher that changed to flame thrower like alt weaps do in rune quake.

                      is the ctf port going to be crctf or pub? i never understood it, but ppl really seemed to like pub ctf at hating.

                          Btw.. Toronto server please.. There are a bunch of Ontario Quakers and ping for people who like speaknow wouldn't change much

                            It is crctf on port 26001 (i think i said tf was 26001 before). It appears to be working, I still need to edit some configuration files. For some reason it wasn't reading the maps and sprites from the pak files on the server side. I had to manually place them in my main \maps and \progs folder. If you think a pub server would be good also, just point me in the location of the necessary files.
