  • DM: Order of Operations

    Alright.

    Like the last kid to be picked at dodge ball in gym class, I dont want to continue to be that kid in Death Match.

    So, to remedy that, I want advice that I would be able to print out and put by my Quake station. Ive gotten priceless advice from different people, but it recoding it down during that time (while in game play) seems difficult at best.

    The advice people provide, will help others who are in the same boat. If this advice already exists in another thread, please direct me to it, otherwise, I am open eyes.

    The information I am looking for is like this:

    First Spawn DM. If you Spawn X go to Y:
    ---------------------------------------------------
    YA = Quad
    Lifts = Pent

    Pick-up items spawn time:
    --------------------------------
    Ammo = 30 sec

    Other Trivial tidbits:
    ------------------

    well its first important to have good mouse settings in command line and somewhat lower sensitivity, line -noforcemparms -noforcemaccel, or -noforcemspd

    basically you want to help your team get quad every minute or so,

      I work with a Logitech TrackMan Wheel... which is a trackball...and I have to say I love it... I've tried normal mice... and I am so cramped using them.

      High sensitivity seems to give me some advantages...like simple 360, 180 spin/turn arounds. My sensitivity is 50.

      I will play around with some of those settings you recommended tho.

      I am surprised there hasn't been more commentS on this thread....

        hmm well i don't find myself needing to do 360's often, i may have to put a little for oomph in the wrist for a quick turn but i think lower sens gives better control over rocket shots angled at the ground and its better to have non jittery shaft, 50 seems a little high but i dont know what kinda dpi or poll rate you have so here are my specs:

        logitech mx518, No Logitech drivers , pollrate 500 mhz, sens around 1.8 or 2, 1800 dpi,

        never tried a trackball, you might want to get a laser mouse though, eventually you would get used to one.

        ps: your title for this thread should be something like DM: dm3 tactics, or how to be a DM MASter

          tract ball? wow. neat..
          well splint you are getting better.. ill give you that.. but you cant score high every game.. Kimp scores high some games but thats because hes learning how to play as a team in DM3 and what his role his.. he doesnt run quad, he doesnt go to ra.. he stays in the RL side to crontrol the area and does very well when his team is ahead..
          you just need to figure out your comfort zone.. if its getting RL and sitting around YA/RL area, go for it.. having that person in a TG is very helpful..

                Quad respawns 30 seconds after the quad wears off? Mega-health respawns 60 seconds after last mega-health guy's health hits 100? A lot of players use -dinput (m_directinput 1 in ProQuake / Qrack) for better mouse aim. Red armor absorbs 80% of dmg, YA = 60% and green = 40%.

                  DM is all about map control, TDM is all about team map control. If you come from a ctf background dm is ez. Whomever controls QUAD controls the map

                    Very good points.

                    In some respects, I try not to camp too much... avoiding Faux pas, but maybe I am just getting the genre culture mixed up (CA vs DM) ..where one stunt is more accepted in one arena than the other.

                    I suppose, I'll be dropping that pill as I get to know people; through trials and tribulations...

                    I guess you would have to play all fields (power-upper, or fort holder) to really get the best out of your game. Considering the random player make up of your team.

                      Quad is 30 seconds after it runs out, or a minute after the guy gets it. I'm pretty sure megahealth is 20 seconds after it runs out.

                      Splint, you just have to know what to do when you have what. Learn to read the other players and their healths. Aim is crucial in DM also. Being able to constantly hit a guy with an SG will do a ton of damage. 15 cells may not seem like much, especially when coming from CA, but they can completely turn things around if used correctly.

                              Here's some random stuff

                              For 4on4 DM3...

                              Hold back + left before the match begins for your initial spawn.

                              When you get quad or hear someone get quad, look at the clock on the screen. It will spawn at the exact same second the next minute.

                              Stop using a trackball, seriously.

                              The nailgun is worthless. Use shotgun over nailgun. Supernail gun is not worthless, but quickly becomes worthless long range.

                              All things considered equal (meaning if everyone on both teams has amazing aim, including you, or if everyone has shitty aim on both teams) then Armor > Weapons.
