It's true they really love those maps for the camp+spam action. However the nice thing about shmack's voting system is one "No" vote acts as a veto.

I always thought voting "no" just made the "hey, there's a vote going on" message go away?

Hmm, in CAx voting no counteracts a vote yes; u can re-vote and actually invert your vote!

Some interesting views expressed and there seems to be capacity for both camps within the services available. It would be interesting to see if a server like Bigfoot would catch in the US in the same way if has done in europe. All the ID maps are available, and of course some players have their favourites, but with 100+ custom maps on tap in any mode (DM, rq, RA, midair, etc) it certainly adds an interesting dimension to the game play, and I get the impression that even some hardened "ID map only" players are taking an interest in playing something different now and again.

Each to their own I guess

When given the choice between the path most beaten VS anything new/different and optionable, majority of the "herd" will stay on familiar grounds.

This is killing Quake's ability to be re-released as "something fresh, new and presentable" ......
..For FREE. The word FREE garuntees people do a double take on a "FREE GAME" ...

Would be nice if the new owners of iD would cut us O - Q 's some slack and allow us to release Quake as an complete offering, and not some watered down / modified beyond "Classic Recognition" Quake.

I can only hope there are POWERFUL MYSTICAL FORCES at work in the background, preparing a flashy new, completely functioning "New Q1" that will be availible to the masses .1!>!!>!>!>

I thought a free Quake already existed. Remember the SynQ project?

If its an "out of the box" , gpl / FREE quake, then obviously Quake1 is in a public relations nightmare, and is 100% out of touch with the GAMING COMMUNITY and this existance of NetQuake is merely just a big circle jerk of failure that continues to remain "as is" and not evolve at any noticable rate, with new comers.

Now that it has been summed up, the real question is.... if we make enough noise at the right frequencies, will the world bother to notice?

Thanks for the reminder Foq. It might be worth at least checking it out. (Main Page - SynQ)

                    Kind regards

Doubt it. This is 2010, Quake was 14 years ago. We're all hopeless losers who still play some 14 year old game that most of the gaming population hasn't even heard of before. Quake has shitty graphics because it isn't Crysis, so nobody will want to play it.
