  • Quake Terminus News Closed

After years of service, Megazoid has closed the news section of Quake Terminus. He announced his plan to do this a little over a week ago.

Quake Terminus will continue to exist, but the news portion won't be updated and shout box has been removed (it was getting spam).

"If in the unlikely event of an announcement, I will stick it in the forum which is staying on site. QuakeTerminus will out last all other Quake websites" -- Megazoid

Like many others, I always thought Quake Terminus was THE site and I was honored when Megazoid offered me the opportunity to be an editor there last year.

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

I guess he got annoyed that the news frequently went for months-long sabbaticals. QuakeTerminus was pretty cool as a news page when it started, but it soon became just a repository that people visited when they're looking for something (e.g. the mods, which btw is a great resource and ought to have more added, or perhaps the comics ), rather than something regularly checked for news.

Updating news is a major time consumer. For several months last years, I tried to take a lot of burden off Megazoid's shoulders in that regard.

He had put 5+ years into serving the community. That's a lot of effort.

I hope he still decides to post here and hang out with the community, but even if he doesn't, the man deserves a vacation.

He's been generous to us (QuakeOne.com) and to me personally, and whatever he decides to do and however much he decides to participate, I wish him well.

In an effort to reserve this thread for feedback on the closing of Quake Terminus, I've moved side discussions to another thread where CheapAlert shares his unsubstantiated and untrue theories on closing of Quake Terminus News.

I believe Bank's "wtf" post fits best in the new thread What do you think Bank?

QuakeTerminus was THE quake site to go to. It was always uptodate in present events and mods/servers. Megazoid even went out of his way to create a shoutbox and forum. The Closing of QuakeTerminus shouldn't be negative, but positive that it kept the very scarce Quake community alive thus far!

                Well, I wasn't expecting a news post.

Sajt has got it right. The news has been all over the place for a long time, and even with the great help from Baker, CheapAlert, Louise, Bank and others, it just wasn't consistent. There are at least 5 sites doing a great job of Quake news, so the time was right. I've been trying to make to site minimal maintenance for, well, years actually.

Thanks to everybody who made the site a success. :d

I'll go post in that other thread now....

I'd do anything to keep Quake Terminus alive and kicking, and I'm sure CheapAlert would agree.

You know, you guys are right. Sure, no site could ever be a hub of the different Quake communities, but who said anything about a central news source? Not only is it possible, but it's BETTER than checking all the different other news sites for updates.

In a perfect world, QuakeTerminus would have all the news, no forum but a nice bunch of links to the different community forums. And each community site would redirect to QT, or leech from QT, or something for news, but have their own forums.

I think somebody should give QT another shot, it was a great little thing, and try harder than ever to get word spread around the Quake-o-verse.

Maybe QT has breathed its last, maybe any further attempts would be in vain due to the dwindling community. If so, too bad. I guess we'll see what juice the Quake community has left when QExpo hits, which will be the most broadly advertised QExpo yet.

                      PLENTY, heh.

I know of 9 cool development projects going on at this site alone, heh. :d :d

Our CookingStyleCoding friend is working on a project Im excited about, which is a secret up until QExpo.

I better damn well be excited about QExpo after all, since Im hosting it =)
I personally have a trick up my sleeve, but Im not going to play that card until after QExpo.
