Rune Quake is full of cheap kills! Though so is CA, they're just more practical (camp,telecamp,spam etc...)

it really used to be about honor, not spam and grapple damage and exploiting every rune to its fullest annoyance. Shit i know a guy who can change maps and run around with no hook and a power rune, and still get called a bot !

Make a folder in your Quake folder called ctf, dump ctf shit there, copy configs from id1 folder, make a copy of your Quake shortcut and add -game ctf

Make a ctf folder in your /Quake folder
then download these:

unzip both file contents into the /quake/ctf folder

copy autoexec.cfg and config.cfg from /QUAKE/ID1/ into your /QUAKE/CTF/ folder

(and any other config files you might use too)

right mouse click on your Quake engine's .exe (ie glPro.exe)
and select create a shortcut.
rename your new shortcut to Q1CTF or 3WaveCTF or glProCTF whatever. [enter]
then, right click the shortcut file and select properties

find the TARGET: pane on that popup and click it's contents and press the end key, now after glpro.exe add -game ctf
exactly. You may also include -mem 32 -zone 1024 also if you wish.
When you want to play CTF just double click that shortcut!
Now you are ready! (almost).

Before you hop on a server and get all upset because you cannot use the hook, remember the hook is a piece of equipment like your AXe. You are always carrying it. And like the axe (impulse 1), you use an impulse to select the hook. The hook uses "impulse 22".
Open your /quake/ctf/autoexec.cfg file (or make one) and add

bind x "impulse 22"

This will bind the x key to select the hook. REPLACE x with any accessible key of choice. I personally use MOUSE2 (right mouse button).

Pressing your +attack (fire) key deploys the hook. The hook will deploy the time you are holding your fire button. When the hook connects to a surface, you will then be pulled to that impact point, as long as you continue to hold your +attack button. Switching to another weapon, while holding the attack key with the hook deployed will switch weapons BUT it will also, leave your hook out; which in some cases can trouble new players as they get absurdly stuck to walls when they are trying to fight. If this happens just quickly select the hook key (impulse 22) again and let off the +attack key. Remember the hook is a vehicle, not a weapon, though if you choose to hook your opponents, you will certainly be ridiculed and beaten with the sharp end of the axe or a blunt jeer.

There are other commands and impulses for CTF, but vary between server/mods/settings.

I always said... the people who say deathspots and other trap type runes are "gay" are the ones who maneuver a map in a calculated way. If you are so good, you wouldn't be running into those types of traps. Grow some balls and adapt your play style. Stop roaming the map in the your calculated manor and learn to avoid such traps.

I usually dance around deathtraps... but when they get spammed on a teleporter destination = GHEY!

People like me,who know the in's and out's of RuneQuake, can easily wipe the floor with anyone. For example , Map is DM6. I radiate 3 Room's (Red Armour, Center, and Green Armour Steps)

I Immediately know that I must ;

a)Drop the Radiation Rune,and start my quest for the next rune.
b)Locate Bezerk,and proceed to FN own everyone.

I live for this combo,it pisses ppl off.

i did all of it. and its starting up... then i remembered why i stopped tryin the first time couple years ago...
i am forever running into a snag when trying to load the map... for example ctf3m2.bsp
i took the pak file from the 3wave download section, and i renamed it to PAK2, i already have a pako and a pak1 in there i even copied all my maps to the ctf folder to no avail, i dont even see that particular map name in it, i mean i did this for rocket arena and it worked just fine... im confused and about to get Hydro on the horn...
am i doing this wrong R00k? did u already provide the map link in your first post to me ?

im going to defend rune quake alittle bit because i play it.. It takes a decent amount of skill to avoid traps and to deploy runes properly.. Avoid tele's always use the hook to get to places faster... my favorite rune is the holo rune i change my color and sneak attack in those.

That gunctf has all the maps in the fore mentioned downloads, in two paks
so you can replace the pak0 an dpak1 in /ctf with this gunctf zip paks...

I got it once ever, start map, right off the bat, 30 seconds of ragequit mania before the dust cleared...
