I recall previous sites like TLTQ and Singed having what he have here, and more. True, this site is better structured for help and support in regards to quake, but in the last 5 years the community has boiled down to pretty much nothing but CA***s who sit around and argue for 20 minutes before ever playing. There's loads of internal strife left in this already very small and further withering community for god knows what reason... check out the CTF thread for examples.

You got that wrong there buddy, ITs DM'ERs who sit around aruging for 20 minutes to play a 10-20 minute match just to do it ALL over again.

He's too bitter and blind to even bring a legit arguement to the table. Your right Patrick, CA'rs DONT sit for 20minutes arguing. We R up and if you arent R, too fn bad we just force'd the match!!!!

He's been a troll under Quakeone.com's bridge for awhile.

As a newcomer to this forum and this discussion, I would simply like to say that the fact we have so many modders, and coders still making changes to a game that came out in 1996 is testament enough to it's longevity. I will be here for the next five + years and I believe there will be plenty of others there as well. Look at all of the communities that still exist for the old games like Quake, Unreal, Duke 3D, and Hexen. They exist hand-in-hand with all of the newer games and technology and there is room for all IMO. As for the negativity, show me one aspect of life where that cannot exist at some level. You just deal with it and move on, like we should here.

I understand foq's mind set on Quake, its like pushing your grandpa to join a 3 mile race and expecting him to at least be 3rd out of 200.

to me, Quake is basically like this now.

You have RuneQuakers which offers instant gratification. and offers the quiestest way to play...

You have CA'ers who take a bit longer then the RuneQuakers to get a game going but its usually pop in and go...

You have CTF'ers who are starting to play more again and you'll see4 people playing while 8 ?observe? usually takes more effert then CA to get goin...

You have DM'ers who talk more then the chicks on The View before the match starts and almost try to micromanage teams and games (good thing but takes much effort)...

I'm quite curious as to what makes RuneQuake so attractive, I've played it and its not my bag of nades but it gets played almost 24/7 and that amount of play dwarfs any over server's activity. It has a strong player-base and easy pick up and go gameplay with the ability to get instant gratification (frags) with little to no skill required (though there are good RQ players obv).

Quake gets beat out of every category when compared to other game's in today's standards and I feel that "riding on ID's back"in hopes that Quake 1 will be great again is foolish. Quake needs to be revamped to the point where its new revision could easily be "Quake 1-2".

Quake doesn't need to be on the same level as COD, it just has to grab attention of the player and hold on to it while offering fun! I have a couple good ideas on what might be the start of some fun stuff such as 64 player limit, imagine 64 other players on a newly designed map fragging the sh*t out of each other, this is something never seen before!

I had another idea but I forgot lol!

              +1 to gdiddy

^^ 1. Anyone can tell I have a very strong bias towards attracting developers to this game. There is a reason for this. It is not an accident, I have been doing this behavior for YEARS. It has been a very consistent behavior too.

              2. I would talk more, but I have learned working in private works better. First, talk is cheap. Second, talk leads to public pressure. Third, it leads to unqualified people wanting to "help" and bothering me. So the silent road is the road.

              3. I fully understand the mistakes, strengths, weaknesses, successes of the community past and present to a an exceptional degree. I will not use my arsenal until I have all of the master plan in place. Not one second before.

              4. History favors the bold. I believe aggressive and positive behavior is the pinnacle of human behavior. But there is no magic wand, it the real world you got to earn victory. No one is going to do it for you. An the most aggressive/positive behavior possible is to be unrelenting and committed to an idea. They have a word for this: the "winner".

I might as well add that at this point, as far as we've gone, anything but winning and resurrecting the game just simply isn't an option to me.

And I am more than willing to drag objectors and nay-sayers kicking and screaming across the finish line.

You're gonna win, whether you like it or not. We've all put too much into this game. And sitting around debating whether or not some 15-years-old game is going to die is a bit ridiculous, the game is freaking 15-years-old already.
