  • Dm Team Game Maps

Let me start off by saying I love DM3. It is by far the perfect map for team games. I like to use the analogy that Quake is a sport and DM3 is the court.

That being said I'd like to see if we can't challenge our DM players with a little bit of variety. Recently we've seen crmod fill up with at times 12-16 players, this is great except only 8 get to play. I've been thinking that Q1Edge and Q3DM6QW would be great maps to add to our clanring servers for 5v5 or 6v6's. I'd also like to ask the community for their suggestions on different maps that we could start to master in clanring.

Additionally I was thinking if anyone can suggest any 3wave maps that would be fun to play without the hook/flags.

I've heard that QW players often play DM2 actually... 4v4 DM2 is a pretty common occurrence in QW. There are plenty of custom maps out there that are designed for teamgames... Can't think of many of them off the top of my head, but here are a few that I remember...

DaMaul1 - Oblivion - HUGE map... supports up to 16 players.. I'd guess the ideal player load for this one would be maybe 4v4 at the least, up to 8v8 probably.

DaMaul2 - Reign In Blood - Even bigger map. Apparently been played in QuakeWorld 4v4v4v4. 5v5 is the bare minimum for this level according to the readme.

DaMaul7 - The Temple of Tanktarta - designed purely for 4v4 Team DM if I remember correctly.

Pope5 - BlackPope's Bloody Discharge - Really neat Mayan themed level. The readme states 2v2/3v3 being ideal.

AB2 - Abandoned Base 2 - A dm3 remake! This one looks really neat and is much bigger than dm3 itself. Could probably easily handle a 6v6. I've not had a chance to really play it, but its definitely worth a shot.

cmt5b - The Dreamweaver - Very well made map... I'd say 4v4-6v6 would be suitable here, might get a little cramped though. I've only played it in FFA.

e2m5 - The Wizard's Manse - yes, an ID map... It looks pretty balanced and interconnected enough for possible Team Deathmatch... There are RLs on either side of the map, with a pent on one side near the water area, and quad on the other side. A RA is close to the middle, with an LG being on a top catwalk area. Just from thinking about its layout it might be worth a try.

That's about all I can really remember right now, if any more pop into my head I'll post em here. I'd definitely check out those Damaul maps if possible. I don't think I've seen a match on CRMOD with more than 2 teams... Could be interesting I would love to play with you guys on some of these newer maps.

        Q1Edge!!! Obviously!!!

We need to compile a list of maps to request, and once that list of maps is compiled, approach slot-zero with the request. I'm sure he wont mind, long as we make it a single request!

It's tough to convince some players not to RQ when it changes off DM3 though. Some players dont utilize the automatic map download feature either, which is really useful atleast once per map.

about 2 out of 10 maps require you go somewhere else and manually get it though, still very handy

            http://www.quaketastic.com/upload/fi...er/maps/w3.zip

Found and uploaded! It was in a pack full of others, the only place I could find it. Unfortunately it didn't contain the text file.

Nice old-school looking map. Could probably do 3v3 or 4v4 even.

            And here is ranbase http://bigfoot.morphos-team.net/misc...ps/ranbase.bsp
This one looks a bit small-ish, might be good for 3v3, maybe 4v4.

Whoa, gonna edit this post here in a bit. That pack had a bunch of other neat ones in it suitable for teamgames...

I suppose I can start linking the downloads for these, the ones I posted earlier should be easy enough to find.

base311 - Base 311 - http://www.quaddicted.com/multiplaye...se/base311.zip - Oldschool design base map, looks like it was made for team games, probably 4v4. Looks kinda sparse on the ammo/weapons though... Worth a look.

cenparw - Central Park West - http://www.quaddicted.com/multiplaye...se/cenparw.zip - Large metal map with some wide open areas. The readme states supports up to 12 players, so up to 6v6 might do it.

halls - Halls of the White Wizard - http://bigfoot.quake1.net/maps/halls.bsp - medium-large wizard map with plenty of water areas. Played this one before a bit on NewDM, could make for a fun 4v4.

I know these are a lot I'm throwing out there, but they all seem worth a try.

CMT3. It deserves the reputation it has in the Quakeworld community as an extraordinary DM map. It is a perfect 4 on 4 DM map.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Now that I think of it... CMT4 - Andromeda Nine by Slayer looks to be a good one as well. Probably 4v4 would be suitable.

Had some others I thought of, but they've slipped my mind at the moment :p

EDIT: efdm12 - Death by the Dozen. Lots of powerups in this one in good locations. Pent, quad, ring, megahealths are all present. Very interconnected here, lots of escape routes. I think this one has been played and enjoyed many times by QW players. 4v4-6v6 looks right for this one.

Rabbit is looking for 5-5 to 8-8 maps tho, i like the e4 id maps (e4m1-e4m8 or 9 is it?)
some of them would be perfect for dm, have 2 or 3 rl's and lg's and 2-6 quads depending on the lvl, most have 1 pent and are big enough for large numbers. i think e4m4 would be best choice one quad, one pent, forur rls, 3 lgs and lots of room for 10-16 players.

Thank you for all your suggestions so far. I've been looking at these maps and a lot have potential. I actually seem to have most of them because I downloaded all the maps from bigfoot awhile ago. I think Mindz is right that we could compile a list but perhaps it would be easier to just add all of bigfoot's maps to the clanring servers.

Ultimately we need to get new maps on the servers and try them out. The people that will decide whether or not we start to play these maps regularly will be the community.

I'd also like to recognize smokey's point about a lot of ID maps are Team game appropriate. I think one of my favourite ctf maps E2M5 (Wizard's Manse) would be a blast in a tg.

                    Keep coming with those suggestions.

Yeah I bet there's a handful of ID maps that are good for teamgames.

Just found a few more that might be fun:

titan2 - Titan II by Slayer - Lots of lava here, level looks like it could hold 10+ players. Some long kinda boring hallways though, might be too easily spammable with nades, etc, but who knows.

any32 - Any Which Way But Lose - massive map, probably 16 players minimum. Designed for up to 32 players in QW. Certainly has a variety of different areas and architecture, but no idea how well it will play.

forge - Forge of Repent - medium sized metal level, 4v4-5v5 looks good. Lava everywhere Good interconnection as well.

dranzdm7 - Purple Haze - another huge level. Readme states 10 player FFA being ideal, but I'm sure bigger (10+ player) team games would hold up fine.

ztnbase - The Z.T.N. Base - huge interesting base level with lava and water environments. Could definitely hold up to 16 players.

pope6 - BlackPope's Mechanical Womb - medium sized level, looks designed for team games just from walking around a bit. Seems pretty well balanced, probably 4v4, maybe 5v5 here.

Can't believe I forgot these... the ukpak series. Specifically designed for teamplay. The readme states 4v4, but I'm sure they could handle more.

                      http://www.doomwadstation.com/idgame...ions/ukpak.zip

This zip also has loc files and "guides" which show the layout and item placement to the maps, quite convenient

Used to play Base 311 all the time back in the day, but mostly FFA. I always wanted to get a good team game going on it.

I took soundings today from the Bigfoot players and they showed me a few great maps. Croctear, Ac4, BSP. They also have other mentioned maps like the CMT series. I'm still thinking that if we just add all of bigfoot's maps it should keep us busy for awhile. However I don't want to create a ton of work for Slot Zero or Avalanche. Does anyone know how difficult it is to add maps to Clanring?

P.S. We need to modify Q1EDGE so that is has at least quad. Other wise it'll just be an RL camp map.

Ah yeah... was going to mention croctear too. Another well made map. Sucks that there isn't a whole pack or a way to download all bigfoot maps at once rather than individually (or maybe there is). Not sure of how to add maps to crmod, might involve changing the QC to make them voteable and appear in warp list.

If you'd like I can edit q1edge for you... We can meet up on a server and you can show me where you want a quad to be. Then the edited bsp file will have to uploaded to crmod or whichever server.

My favorite large dm maps were hands down the SOF series.
The chopper is classic but there's another with flying scooters that was a lot of fun.
