Alright Monster figured out that you can only have 10 custom maps in Clanring. So we've got to narrow down our choices.

    1. Aerowalk
    2. ZTNDM3
    3. Q1EDGE (modified by Monster, added quad/pent/eyes)
    4. Q3DM6QW
    5. Croctear
    6. CMT3
    7. DaMaul1
    8. DaMaul2
    9. BSP
    10. DM7

I want you guys to check out these maps on either bigfoot.quake1.net or bomber.quakeone.com and let us know if you agree or think they don't qualify.

Croctear and BSP for sure are rather large maps. Croctear is a very neat map, but quite big and even hard to work for Clan Arena with 12 players.

BSP is a great looking map, but is kind of big. 4 vs 4 might work.

I'm glad to see this discussion regarding custom maps in DM.

The idea behind the big maps is that we could get some 5v5s or 6v6s going when crmod gets full. Granted we'd have to learn some loc'ing discipline with that many people playing on each team.

Q1EDGE and Q3DM6QW though are just big enough for a 5v5 and 6v6 respectively.

For CRMOD, adding custom maps is as easy as editing the 'userdefs.cfg' file then running crmake in the /crmod/ folder. This scans the progs.dat for tags ("________________lt!g0"), a 16 character slot to copy the filename into. Up to 10 slots are provided. So the limit to custom maps for CRMOD is 10.

Alright Vis was kind enough to upload Q1Edge with Monster's added powerups to dm.clanhdz.com. You don't have to download a new copy of Q1Edge to play the new version with powerups.

Edit: We just played a 3v3 and the feedback is that the Quad and Pent should be moved. Play the map yourselves and tell us what you think.

Congrats on getting custom maps on quake.crmod.com ... if you go back a couple of years, Slot Zero didn't really like the idea of custom maps at crmod.com.

Made sure those maps are in the downloads.quake-1.com default ProQuake download URL for the sake of player convenience.

CTF8 is a good map for DM.

Also, I hate to say this, but the DM community is LACKING CHANGE. 15 years of DM3, get over it I'm glad you're trying to get them to play other maps Rabbit.

The Quad and Pent don't need moved on Q1Edge in my opinion, it's just that some of the DM3'ers (I no longer call them dm'ers) can't get used to the fact that they can't control it the same as DM3 (the one and only map ever played on crmod).

I really hope you get the DM3'ers to play more maps, because a lot of us won't DM simply because we're so tired of the same shit.

You will see some DM3'ers OWN hard in crmod on dm3, but you warp to a different map and do a 3-3 that they haven't played on for 15 years, and even a tier2 player can take first place.

                  DM needs some work.

I'll have to agree with Frenzy there of course ;P. Good to see people are wanting some different maps though. Many of these customs are pretty different from the dm3 layout, but still look to be very well made and well balanced. In my opinion, the good team is the one who can win on a variety of different maps, even ones they have never played before.

Yeah we moved the quad/pent/ring and added a megahealth, we'll see what happens. There are a lot of custom maps where the quad is in a center area with lots of vulnerability to attack from up high. It seems like a necessary risk to take in order to get the quad, but I'm not really the DM expert.

Looking forward to seeing these maps getting played

Quad is supposed to be vulnerable to get to. What's the point of having Quad locked down *cough*dm3*cough*. I'd leave it wide open and MAKE them fight for it

For example, the most popular map over the years in 3wave has been CTF1, it is in the middle, inside a small room where you gotta shoot a door open, it's VERY likely you may die trying to get to it.

However, we don't not play it for this reason.

                        Hey guys.
I'm all for playing newer/different maps for team dm games. The other day we did a 3v3 on Q1edge and Q3dm6 - both of which were quite enjoyable and refreshing. It also seems to even out the playing field where all players are having to learn new strategies for the maps. Obviously I don't think that DM3 will ever go away and I myself hope it doesn't. I love DM3 as much as the rest of the community, but I do enjoy a change now and then.

There are some players out there who won't play team games on anything OTHER than DM3, and I find that tragic. Do you think that there are other players who WOULD play team DM if it were on a non-DM3 map? As much as I like CAx, I think DM IS Quake. CRMOD is a timeless mod. I guess I just wish there were more DM'ers. Every time I play DM, it takes me back to the 90's.

I played crmod once, when they were playing a non-DM3 map.
