Not surprised, nor will I ever be to hear hacking is still going on in this game. The veteran players can spot cheats almost as soon as they join a server. I called one out recently, and the other person playing decided to say that there are no cheaters here. This post talks about pak2 , and thats what I believed was going on. It all comes down to knowing who you are playing with in the end, and while doing stuff like this disrupts servers, and causes more players to leave we all know they will be back for another short while when they think of another nickname. Yea, in a way complaining about someone's mental illness makes you at least as sick as they are, so best thing to do is just leave the server, and ignore them.

As for posting the hacked engines, right away I thought it was a stupid move, but I have played on Q3 servers that were so botted out, the admins made code so that every player who joined the game got their own built - in bot server side coded so that they could compete. I know, it got stupid really fast and that server is long since gone, but you can also look at posting links to hacked engines as leveling the playing field so to speak. If they believe they have an elite cheat, they will become more arrogant than they would if they know there are other engine coders out there who can whip out somehting they never seen and take them out with it....but again, thats stooping to the level of the mental illness - not killing the patient, but you are also ' playing their game ' so to speak once you decide to pull out a cheat just because they are. Thats when they decide they have got your attention, and thats all they are really looking for is some kind of attention.

Kimp is the most famous/readily availible hack/cheater in Quake1, and there isn't anyone who can say otherwise. hahah

I don't need attention, I get enough of that from CD.Kimp deserves all of my attention, not one iota to spare.

Leveling the playing field? YES. You,like mono, have a firm understanding of how cheating works.Normally you'd want to keep these types of players out, but, whatever. Tremor/Kathos control their respective server's. Their choice, but I have a stake in the community too, I just choose to run a tight ship,and I have no room for the bullshit, most notably, cheaters.

Tremor announces he won't be availible to play on day X , and the very same day he recieves tons of complaints kimp was being a pile of hax to the max shit

I received complaints that he was going afk constantly - not cheating. I banned him for a week for that activity. Since then, he's played 2 nights in 1 month, last night being one of them.

Suppose Kimp does cheat, all the time. Why do you care? You don't play with him. And, those h4x to the m4x you keep speaking of really doesn't do him much good...I mean, he's never at the top of the frag list. These quad and pent timers - oh wow. Most of the guys simply look at the built in timer anyway. Folks like Lenny,Rcade,TV, and others know the exact second when it will spawn without h4x. It's not an advantage at all.

I also didn't particularly appreciate your mm1 smack talking for the first 5 minutes of our dm game last night. I couldn't read my team's binds - very frustrating.

I think, maybe, just maybe this is about more than just kimp. I've noticed several CA players have started enjoying DM more than CA as of late. I've talked to some of them - they say it's more challenging, and several of them are doing really well. I've also noticed that because of this mass migration, the CA servers are empty - hell, even I like to play a few rounds of CA from time to time, but there are simply no players playing CA! Perhaps Mindzx has noticed this too, and it burns him - as in, his mod of choice has no activity as of late. Kimp being allowed to play with the DM'ers is just icing on the cake. =/

So much more of the community deserves our attention than this nonsense. What Tremor allows on his server is completely up to him, and by all means you're allowed an opinion or we wouldn't have such places as these forums to do so, but your opinion isn't absolute rule, and to keep telling members of the community to shut up, or call them names, is not an admin-worthy move. I really can't believe some of the actions I'm seeing from Mindz myself. However, when it comes down to it, he hasn't abused his admin on the site while dealing with his obsession. But as far as "representing for your team", if Mindz had a Quakeone.com t-shirt on and ran around acting like this, would make us all look bad.

Im weighing in on this incident way late, I really dont get involved in the group politics much to know what else happened etc, but if you are right and he / she / it has been around that long as you say, chances are he / she / it will be around still yet another spell for who knows how long yet to come...and it will have absolutely no effect weather we make up threads on this site, or what we do as admins or players. Whatever you did , or didnt do makes no difference. What I said before about openly complaining, while depressing, is very true. The more attention these kind of people get, the more useful they feel. You cant punish them like they are going to understand what they did was wrong, and perhaps become rehabilitated as a result, thats why jails and prisons are all overpopulated and they have us trying to pay the taxes to keep roofs over their heads....we got to learn we are out of our league when it comes to this kind of behavior and just ignore it.

Got news for ya, the Quake 1 game has had a bad rap for about a decade now, thats why so many servers and no players - cause cheaters are still at it.

You had guts enough to say you cheated at one time, so did I. I messed with the Richmark bot on a server for a while where others were cheating. I kind of figured this game was heading on a collision course with where its at now anyway, so I decided to throw some fuel of my on on the fire to boot. Since then I learned to have more discipline and not sink to the level of that kind of mentality.

But in defense of Mindz - I know how he feels, because I been there. When you get in a groove and have good games going and this happens, it sets you off in anger, and it blinds you to the effect it has on the rest of the group. Sure, it makes the community look bad, but like I say, the ones who have been around from the beginning know what I say is true, the game has a bad rap in the gaming community. Heck, its not even on the list when you go to set up a gaming server anymore with a hosting company...and it likely never will be.

The entire time kimp's been "kimping" this community,I've been weilding a ban-hammer for him specifically.
50% of my admin comes from a REAL NEED for keeping kimp off the server's.

I had a very poor choice in the avenue chosen, as Frenzy already said. That doesn't make the reason I chose that avenue any less irrelevant,it actually in theory makes the reason or cause even more relevant.

Considering, an Administrator is handing out hacks? Yea, thats some heavy heavy shit. And it was heavy for a reason.

Mindz and I won't get into a flame war, I can promise you that. We get along far too well. When Mindz and I talk, we know better than to blow off the handle at each other. Last time I checked, this game,and all of its fans,have at minimum have doubled in age,and now haven their own teenagers if they happened to have kids.

It may be in bad taste, but it's not like I don't cuss my friends and family more often than people I don't like.

It's second nature , and when people do piss me off,the attitude and style of articulating changes. One thing for sure though, at the end of the day I still <3 quake,I just hate how its being handled in terms of cheaters.

You're making the community hate you more than Kimp. What you're doing by banning Kimp is awesome, the way you are handling yourself isn't. Mindz needs to be removed as an admin. He's too emotional and makes poor decisions.

A lot of the issues have already been stated. The fact that he would even post what he does should be enough evidence alone to remove him as an admin.

As others also mentioned, there have been a lot of site/community issues as of late. A lot of people are fed up. Recently there has been some talk about starting up a new forum. While I disagree with almost everything Mindz done, and some of the things Frenzy does, I hope that we can work out the issues here and continue using this site instead of starting over.

Not everybody can agree with an admin's decisions. However, we can work as a community to talk and debate maturely amongst each other. Let the talks of other forums be talked about, nothing will compare to what has been built here. Hopefully we all get over this speed bump. Has anybody seen the "Finished Works", or "Works In Progress" lately? Or how about all the CTF that's been being played? There's more than just this issue that's always talked about!
