Who here is going to play D3?

I'm not sure if it will stick me on an Asian server, but I assume I can choose since its battle.net.

I will play it if some people here are down to play with me on a semi-regular/leisurely basis.

A created game allows up to 4 people at a time, and if you join my game name (checking whois on your friends list) you will be automatically spawned to my location.

As far as what i saw of the game right now and what stuff they build in (item shop for real money...) i'll never play that online. In a few years i'll get it as a budget version for 10 bucks or so but only to play singleplayer. I loved D2 but D3 is nearly the same...

I played a little bit of D3 when they had the open beta weekend. Don't remember what level I got to but it just doesn't feel "right" to me =/ Maybe I will try it again someday and I might really like it.. who knows

I see, I also heard mixed reviews so far.. some times the game has the art direction/style of WOW, which worries me. I really hated Starcraft2, and I played Broodwars for years.. SC2 just felt and looked horrible.. clunky, too easy to build units, and the art direction was bulky and similar to WOW's terrible graphics. They need to stop using the same fucking graphic team they use for every game, the D2 developers left after D2 expansion and ever since then Blizzard has gone down hill with their game production (especially since being taken over by Activision - fucking money cow company).

I read a lot of people say the beta played really well and was extremely fun, so I'm hoping they have a demo or something so I can try it out before purchasing. Anyone else here try the beta? I would love to hear some more reviews before deciding if I'm going to purchase or not.

Yeah I honestly don't get why everyone thinks and thought WoW's graphics were/are so great. EQ2 looks way better IMHO. The cartoon style takes any seriousness away from Diablo. I only played 2 like a yeah ago at a friends house and I rather liked it. From what I played it does seem easier. Stuff pops up telling you what to do... like almost every modern game. Part of the fun is figure out this stuff with trial and error >.> I don't want my hand held. The fact that you reach level 2 after the first quest is.. well. bonkers.

Its not a BAD game. I just wasn't like... going to beg my parents (or my sister) to buy it for me.

I played the open beta for about 3 hours or so. I liked it. I will most likely buy the game and play it. I really liked WoW but didn't really get into multi-player aspect of the game. I solo'd most of the time or played with a few real-life friends. I never had the time commitments to join a WoW guild and do raiding and such. Thats why I think I'll like Diablo 3 more.

^ Actually, you and me are alike! I LOOOOVE the idea of a MMO but I just can't get into it big time. Mostly I'm scared that I will get so into it that I can't get out and it will be depressing. A smaller game that is RPG but has a foreseeable "end" but you can play online when you want is more like something I would jump on =D

Played the beta and I didn't enjoy it at all. I gave it several chances but it just didn't feel like Diablo to me

Absolutely agree. Sometimes during the release of Diablo 2/development of Warcraft 3, Blizzard changed (you can clearly see it on Warcraft 3 screenshots during its development). I would play Diablo III, even though I somehow lost interest in action RPGs once I tried Baldurs Gate, but it is Diablos atmosphere which would draw me back. But its lost, cant compare Diablo 3 with my feelings from Tristram in Diablo 1.

Blizzard didn't change, this isn't the same studio that developed Diablo. Blizzard North, originally an independent company that became a branch of blizzard, made Diablo 1 and 2, and the parent company gave them gameplay ideas and features like battle.net - Blizzard North was removed from the company and Blizzard has the rights to the franchise so they scrapped the old version of Diablo 3 and put many of the WoW devs on the new one which we have here. They don't even have the same composer

                      Thanks for clarifying.

Its a huge mistake if you ask me, it appears in order to cut costs they used the same game development team from WoW for all of their games and this neglected the core fans of each unique game. It's also worrisome because previously blizzard didn't try to mass produce/appeal a game to a larger
audience. Now, they shit all over the prequels by creating sequels that are extremely easy, fast rewarding, and catered toward clickers as opposed to thinkers.

The enjoyment I got when I was a kid out of blizzard games was immense because it took me a long time to get good. There was a big learning curve, and you paid the price for wrong decisions but that's what made it more challenging.

Aside from the music that isn't even noticeable or Diablo-like at all, I'll repeat what I said elsewhere:

Something that particularly struck me was when you level up in Diablo

3 - your character speaks and a shockwave of gold sparkles and fireworks

launches out from underneath you as you gain level, followed by the game

                        saying you've reached level "X"

If anything, this was one of the biggest disappointments to me, because

neither Diablo 1 or 2 needed this for leveling up to be satisfying - gaining a

level was a reward in itself, and that button pop up or that sound was

sufficient to communicate that across - as well as it being a reward for you

to change your character bit by bit the way you wanted, regardless of if it

was a good idea or not. It's like they knew this so they threw in a light show

to hide the fact that leveling up isn't as rewarding because you just unlock

stuff as you go instead of choosing what you want
That, along with the fact that stuff like light radius isn't even a factor, and that we will never hear anything as scary or atmospheric as this again in a Diablo game:

                        [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dpp3bKo8xn0[/ame]

                        Is just saddening, if anything

                          Lol

Don't get me started on the poor voice acting as well

I didn't understand that part - a lot of it was flat, even from the old actors

WTF blizzard? I thought they would at least put comparable quality in ALL their franchises, even if they didn't create all of them

Baldur's Gate series is very quest and NPC talk oriented and less hack and slay.

Icewind Dale, BG's sister series, is a lot more combat focused. IWD2 is regarded to be the hardest of those games because of the sheer amount of enemies.

I think they took the idea of Tristram from Diablo 1 for this new one btw, by starting the player in the town, but it doesn't seem to be quite the same.
