    Years ago this used to be considered a hax, but so was water_alpha 0 and r_novis 1, but that seems acceptable these days. as was "straight_shaft" but i believe qrack has this is an option, which everyone seems to be fine with.

    Can we all agree smokeless rockets/gls aren't a performance enhancing drug, simply a peformance enhancing method to obtain as steady and high volume of fps as possible. If we can all agree one this, will someone plz make me the smokeless rocket .mdl or gfx.wad or whatever it used to be. or point me to the download. thx.

    btw someone clarify, is straight shaft still a no-no, cuz that also helped my fps.

        Do not listen to me....
        I am "single player only". That is why I want to have my rocktes/grenades trails.
        It was more or less only a joke-comment.
        I do not know much about the multiplayer side of Quake.
        Please download and test them. I only deleted their flags, so that they do not have trails anymore. Just like you wanted it. The models are the original ID�s.

          cool, they work just like I need them to. i just downloaded quark to see if i could fool around with them myself, since u gave me these, i'm gonna work on the lightning bolt, unless you have a straight ligyhtning bolt as well? lol

            Well, if FPS is the main goal your after ...

            -DirectQ has

            vid_maximumframelatency (default 3,raising this number will give you more FPS)
            vid_gputhreadpriority (default 0, this can make your video card work harder)

            -Qrack has
            r_rockettrail 0 , kills the trails without model replacement.

            I'm sure there are other options availible to you faster than swapping out models Its too early can't remember anything, will have to actually load quake and surf the console variables

              ya, qrack also has straight lightning, but until qrack gets quickgrenade and quickshaft, i simply cant go back to my old ways of impulse binding then attacking. i tried using dx8pq and i get weird graphics glitches. like the ledge of the mound has solid black lines that obv have never been there before.... and the fps wasn't much better, but i didn't try those commands, i will now though.

                man, I started playing QW online around 2001 or 2 and even back then the top players already used smokeless rockets and grenades. can't believe you guys classify this kind of thing as cheat!

                  yeah i dont think anyone thinks the smokeless rox/gls r a cheat. i don't think most ppl consider straight shaft a cheat anymore either. which brings me to my point, who has the bolt.mdls for straight shaft? srsly...

                    i tried editing the bolt.mdl bolt2.mdl and bolt3.mdl (apparently all 3 must be altered for it to take affect) with quark, but i rushed through it. it's not AS wiggly/fuzzy, but it's definitely not straight, like baker and wolv. who need to fuck and get the sexual tension out of the air. soon. i'm sick of the stinch.

                      Qrack doesnt have a straight shaft. What it doesnt have is a lagged shaft. The shaft can be updated clientside. the client tells server where u aim, server tells client ok update the bolt, client updates the bolt, all taking 50ms about. the bold model is still bent it still animates like all other clients, heck even with the particle bolt it randomly offsets each section...

                      r_rockettrail is a joequake leftover, something i didnt know 0 was valid. But if you ever played a game with no smoketrails, ur not gonna see rockets coming at u, it's more of a hindrance than an advantage.

                      What is quickgrenade and quickshaft?? alias +qg "impulse 6;wait;wait;wait;wait;+attack" and alias -qg "impulse 69;wait;wait;wait;wait;-attack" ...........

                      IF YOU REALLY WAN A STRAIGHT SHAFT, i think quake arena 1 or rogue has a rail beam model thats just a blue line... meh

                        oh, sorry i thought i recalled qrack having a straight shaft.

                        and yeah i would guess thats what quickgren/shaft/rl is... but u don't have to make the script, baker has it programmed already. so i have "bind shift +quickshaft" and i'm done. and since for as long as u hold down shift, it automatically changes weaps and fires repeatedly, then when you release shift, it goes back to rl, i've gotten too used to not actually having to press mouse1 to engage my shaft, much less hit a bind to change to impulse 8.

                        still nothing on the straight shaft .mdls? there used to be one that was red, that was pretty sweet. i've googled for hours looking, nothing.

                            I wonder if it is allowed to use custom replacement content in a online multiplayer game ?
                            Or even a modified progs.dat ?
                            Please excuse my dummy questions.
                            I always thought in a online multiplayer game the server checks the used files, so that no cheating can be done ?
                            I mean, there would be many ways to cheat if you could use modified content, no ?

                              ProQuake security.dll used to cross-reference check client & server content, and if you had anything out of place (for example,having a player "spike model" replacement content) you wouldn't be allowed to connect and you would fail a security check. Everyone thought this was a "definitive anti-cheat" and meant no one was cheating. Wasn't true, we got something better now anyway sv_cullentities I think is what its called.

                              So, anything changing of models is pure aesthetics,and pretty sure engines support this far and wide now days,because their's no real cheat benifit in it anymore, only cosmetic changes.

                              I havent connected to a server that required security.dll in a long time,and I don't even have it in my Quake folder any more
