old timer huh, f u nicca

not grumpy but just sick of the feeling we need to dumb quake down more to attract people.

At the end of the day its a old game, be happy with what we got.

No im not discouraging recruitment but dumbing shit down even more then it is combined with the im too fucking lazy to download because its 2012 and my client should do everything for me automatically mentality is getting old.

SO OLD, its older then you accuse me of being.

        How to make water transparent.
        Why don't I have a crosshair
        I'm only getting 60fps and I have l33t hardware

i agree with mindz, it can get a bit tiring to see new people coming in with the same questions all the time

but no matter what you'll always get those to some extend. but you can reduce them by adding obvious links to helpfull stuff so a lot of new people wont make the 1millionth thread asking how to get glquake running in windows7 cuz they instead see the link and click it to get the info they were searching for

so i think its a great idea to add stuff for new people to find info and give them a quick kick-start back into quake
          .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
          > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread

Well, at some point in time I want to be able to provide : a torrent in my signarute that is a 100% legal version of Quake, thats capable of utilizing all modern engines + still look faithful / but yet the works be 100% "safe to link".

I want enemies to blow up,and blow-hard / die-hard / dead-end / old schooler / whatever you wanna call us, we're not good for the status quo.

(All I wanna do is play team deathmatc now, CRMOD)
(Rambo refuses to play Classic Mode CTF / Normal w/ Runes)
(Tool refuses to play with Omicron)
(Omicron refuses to just "let it go" , that guy didnt shoot you on purpose.)

with all this "social dribble" to deal with ,the best thing we can do is offer no-brainer engines / as modern as possible experience in Quake1.

The less fiddling with stuff / the more instant-action availible in gaming, the better.

Baker is wrong,we have a product. It's called R00kMod's 9000, and they are fresh off the press in 2012. I like to sit back and reflect on whats broken and what can use improvements.

              Think like a newb.

The home page of this site right now has a quake 2 logo, and a lot of text, and a button that says "Vote".

It should have a daily-rotating amazing custom map screenshot of Darkplaces and a large Q logo instead. Underneath that, a video of people playing online and a link that says "Join now!"

Maybe also a large Quakeguy picture with "It's 2012 and I'm still here, buddy" printed below it.

              See the difference?

Oh, and I can continue. Underneath the Q2 and vote bullshit, it says "Proquake". Now what the fuck does that mean to a newcomer? It sounds like progamer, or "only for pros". What's a newb or casual player going to think about that?

Look at yourselves from the outside, and see how you present yourselves.

Well, those are all great ideas but ~ media media media! We need media! I am fairly cheesy at graphics programs, and I know we have some l33t graphics people floating around here.

Turtlevan probably has the best looking Q1 DP HD screenshots.
Qrack etc will need slots in the rotating type images.

GB have you ever used NexusModManager? (Skyrim, and other games. It acts like a management system, for automated fuss-less installing of,say, the various SMC effects but, ties everything into a gui that says "install through manager" and it does everything for you.

We could use one of those for all these DarkPlaces addons, and Qrack addons, etc etc.

I'd say your post was a bit of a logic fail because it doesn't accurately explain even recent history. If it did, then we would have full servers from a several years long streak of all the very nice looking news items run in the past.

Mindz and myself were talking about was multiplayer.

Generally what people do with DarkPlaces bling, bling is load it up and look at it and your computer might even lag. Maybe play a couple of single player maps to satisfy the curiousity. Doesn't have much to do with multiplayer, really.

Nice looking screenshots do generate interest, but a different type of interest that doesn't greatly affect multiplayer participation.

[I might add that Quake Live exists ... which very much siphons activity away ... think about that for a moment ... ]

                    Logical fail my ass, sir.

I know you were talking about multiplayer, and *still* suggested what I suggested. Bling to create attention (your current banner looks like something from 2001), and a multiplayer vid to provide content.

I was also not talking about news items, more like a permanent kiosk-like billboard. Right now one needs a magnifying glass to even notice the Quake 1 logo on your site.

But I don't know why I even suggest stuff anymore, it's clear that you're convinced your way of doing things works, even though Quake is deader than ever, and I don't even hold any stakes in it anymore.

The best way to create attention would be to post interesting stuff on other game related sites and drop the quakeone.com link there, possibly in people's sigs.

                    Mmkay, but I'll stop now.

We've done all the stuff you insist works. Until just very recently, mostly due to a lack of time, this site had tons on eye-candy on the front page.

Did it attract viewship? Absolutely! Did it attract multiplayer participation? Very minimally. Suggesting what has been done and hasn't got the job done is the solution is, by definition, a logic fail ... because it can't take past data and relate it to the present. I stand by my statement because it is a true and accurate description of your hypothesis being wrong, which it is wrong.

I was also not talking about news items, more like a permanent kiosk-like billboard. Right now one needs a magnifying glass to even notice the Quake 1 logo on your site.
When time permits, I know I'm looking to make some of the graphics packs more accessible. And add in-engine galleries to install, say, directly from Quaddicted.

But I don't know why I even suggest stuff anymore, it's clear that you're convinced your way of doing things works, even though Quake is deader than ever ...
Surely you jest. We've tried all kinds of stuff, all kinds of angles.

And we're not going to stop trying new things, but right now do I consider things a time for reflection and evaluation of what has worked versus not: Yes.

So back to the drawing board. The things that are right about Quake will never be obsolete, no new game will ever displace them, yet a new formula needs devised.

                      Mmkay, but I'll stop now.
Well, you don't have to. If you've noticed, I'm not exactly the "easily offended" type.

2013 is probably going to be a year of experimentation to see if we can get things on right track again.

No matter what, I don't believe in the crap corporate dogma of the modern world, yet we will need to adapt ...

In this aspect both you and goldenboy are correct. Our homepage is past its prime. I wasn't disputing that by the way. I'm was saying to get positive multiplayer buzz takes more than screenshots.

Every bit of that discussion is more valuable than anyone probably realizes.I see no reason for waiting, I've been waiting for a long time. I understand we can't snap our finger and shit be done, but groundwork discussion is a necessity, including brutal truths.

Like I said, a Quake1 engine/mod manager (Like nexus mod manager) are the answer to "getting players with instant-working + all this bling bling thats going to be advertised quick & easy installing + no fuss no muss.

                          -Download this installer.
-Install (it autofinds your base Quake folder)
-autodefaults to install DarkPlaces and then asks what mods you want to download/install

                          >>>>System Requirements<<<<<<< , this section will require the community provide feedback on a epic level. Every instance would be required, because running DP HD + addons = brutally demanding and not Multiplayer Friendly.

Advertising all that bling bling and it bringing your subtle hardware to a stand still because a bunch of new guys said "All your bling are belong to us" then wonders why their game runs slower than christmas arrrives!!!!

So each and every one of us would need to provide feedback on the engine we push + the hardware we have + determine a reasonable safe minimum requirements for using the software we are gonna push.

                          This isn't your typical 1996 Q1 no?

!!!Qrack would be the ideal External texture / Snazzy effects / doesn't require a NASA computer to garuntee performance. Qrack would easily come out of the box in "Sexy" format but have less demanding system requirements to look good!!!!

I already forsee being a big issue

The gamer needs to install a funnel, and it automatically pour the content in.

GB is correct; if u look at quakelive's homepage you see all newb info in your face, then theres a forum button to take u to that page.

The color scheme is fine. This game is old, its supposed to look old.
Look at SOCK's new mod it looks CLASSIC but beautiful!

I'm not bitching. I've been coming to this site at least once a day since 2005 so im blinded by normality.

Why can't multiplayer participation be drummed up the same way that all other companies do it...advertisement.

You could have a 2d flash banner that has something stupid like "beat the shambler". Whether you win or not you get redirected to a Quake landing page that contains plenty of copy explaining/"selling" the quake experience and a "starter kit" download.
